A fellow runner .. RIP

Postby Lx2run » Sat Oct 24, 2009 5:44 pm

While this gentleman was not a maniac he was an avid runner, one that I had the pleasure to see race on a number of occasions. I ran the trail he was found on and, at this time of year, it would be very colourful. Not a bad place to go. Guys (and ladies) like this always give me hope that I will be running for a long time. His last race was a few weeks ago, ran a 0:49:16 4:56/km pace 10K.

Very sad still, 59 is too young.

One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

I heard that he was missing yesterday and was hoping for a better outcome. So sad to hear he died, but at the same time - doing something he loved. :(

I agree. I'm not too far off that age.
He died doing something he loved...I hope his family and friends can take some comfort from that.

59 years old seems so young. But like previous posts have commented. He died doing something I am sure that he enjoyed.

very sad indeed.
I was hoping for a better outcome, but it didn't seem likely after being missing for so long

I do agree however, that there are much worse ways to go.

Lx2run , appreciate you posting this. My heart goes out to the family , that’s a terrible ordeal to got through knowing he was somewhere out there on the trail.

When ever I read something want to know what went wrong! My knee jerk reaction is that I would never be a runner if I knew I was going to drop dead on the trail. But then I think of all of the other risks I took over the years… the big one being 20+years of tobacco use! Every time I lit up I knew I was doing harm that would bring on premature death yet I still did it

I wonder if there was anything that William Buttery could have done prevent this tragedy. Were there any warning signs…a 4:56/km pace in a 10K event is no walk in the park, the guy was obviously in pretty decent shape!

I hope that we find out what happened; maybe we can all learn a something from this tragedy.
