S.O.S. Thursday

Postby mcshame » Thu Feb 25, 2010 6:49 am

:help:
What a tough tough morning for a run. Deep snow, snow covered roads and in other places slush rivers. I needed to hold onto a chain link fence to get past one slush river. And the snow was falling in big flakes from all directions, East, West, North, South. On one stretch I could barely open my eyes. As I decided yesterday, there was no way I was getting a tempo run done today. Managed 9.3k @ 5:10 for 48 long minutes HR 154. At 8k, I could have turned to head to the house but continued to get in the planned 9k, that was the part where I was rewarded with snow blinding my eyes with cars coming at me. I can't remember when the lat time I ran sub 5:00 :?

Think I'm nuts? Would it change your mind to know that I have a treadmill

Not much better in Ville St.Laurent.... very slushy conditions... but rather the tires roll through the lakes & rivers than my shoes

Crazy here too but the snow on the paths and the side of the roads was nice to run on (just a few puddle jumps required). Not too deep so packed nicely with each step and was sticky so no slipping or sliding.

For me this morning. 10.1km in 49min as
15min warm-up
5min tempo - straight into
4x1min Steady Hills - straight into
5min tempo
15min Cool-down

fun workout. wish I had worn a baseball cap.

9km on very packy snow- the tread on my shoes kept getting chunked up with snow & ice. Not too fun, and very tiring. Had a hard time keeping my eyes open while driving to work after that. I think it wil be an early to bed night for me tonight.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

Last night I had my best 10k run of all time. Special thanks go to my new running partner who was seriously pushing hte pace, my competative spirit not wanting to back off and the Canadian Hockey Team for having a 7:30 gave time, which I needed to be back in time for.

Congratulations to all of the medal wins from Wednesday. What an awesome day for our awesome country! GO CANADA GO!

7K done on the TM last night.

Lorne, I was like you before but now that I have a treadmill, I don't want to run outside unless it's sunny, warm and no snow on the sidewalk ;)

My plan is to head to the gym after work to watch the women's gold medal hockey game while running on the treadmill.

I'm disappointed. You were looking for these conditions all winter and now that it's here, you didn't do any dismounts into the slush. I think it's the end of cyclocross.

2000m in the pool this morning. My upper body and hamstrings were pretty sore from yoga on Tuesday (first class in a couple of months), so I was hurting today. I think I pulled my armpit muscle!

Killer spin workout last night - what I can remember, this is what we did (and Richelle left the Cdn Mens hockey game on the TV while we spun, and we all got to see the gold and silver medal bobsleigh runs too!)
anyway back to the spin:
5min warmup
5x30sec spin ups/30 seconds easy
3x1min hard (high RPM/high tension/HR Build to z4):2 min recovery (rebuilding to z2 on each)
3x2min hard/3min recovery
3x4min hard/3min recovery
3x30sec burts/1:30 recovery
3x15sec burts/1:45 recovery
5 min of easy/high cadence every min for 15 sec
8 min cool down
80 min total

with my initial spin prior to the start of the class, got in 90min on the bike, then 10min of core work after

Then this morning, I met my friend Jenn for a swim - felt tired upon STARTING of the swim - hence, we did more socializing than swimming I think! Pool time was 45min, but I'd say actual swim time was 30min - got in 1200m. Yep. definitley was dogging it today!

hoping to get out for a short 30min run at lunch.

Lorne, you're not just a Maniac, you're a Madman!

[rant]
Can I just say I hate this freaking bug that I've got? It's been holding on for over a month, and as much as I had a great week of running last week, I'm paying for it now. After sweeping the sidewalk this morning, I had to stop and catch my breath. You read that right: sweeping, not shovelling. This sucks. I want to run, but apparently I can't walk up and down stairs.

Saw a doctor three weeks ago, no results from the throat swab means no bacterial infection means no antibiotics means wait it out. I hate waiting. I want to be well.

Grr.

Not likely running today, but lots of walking. Starting with a walk in the woods, then wandering downtown for pretty much the rest of the day, I'd say. :) Yay for friends visiting and bringing care packages from other friends! :D

Took the morning off to take the girls downtown to the Royal Mint however my friend who was there yesterday said to count on waiting 3 hours even if you get there before they open. :? So instead I am going to take them to the pool for a swim and then Chapters to spend their Valentines Gift Card. (educational, right?).

As for me... planning on an outdoor run while DD is at dance tonight...not sure about the distance, would like to do 7k but that might be pushing it.

6km done. Apparently we're going to get hit with 15cm this afternoon :x Mother Nature is conspiring against me breaking 100km this month. Bring it on, Mother Nature, BRING IT ON!!!

@BaldGuy - sorry to hear about your unwelcome viral friends - I spent all of last February sick with one cold after another and March wasn't much better. This winter I started taking 2-3000units of vitamin D daily and the most I had was an ominous tickle in my throat that thankfully didn't develop into anything. Might be worth a try? Hope you feel better soon!
