Thanks Dave, I need to run sub 3 hours to qualify.

Rick, I'm confused. You set the world record at 3:01 something, what is it that you are qualifying for at 3 hrs ?

I can understand your confusion Dave. There is no marathon event at the Worlds (New Zealand) or the Paralympics (England) for my class which is single leg amputee (T44), the longest distance that they have is 800m. So I will have to step up to the next class above me which is the single arm amputee (T46) class. That's where the 3 hour qualifying time comes in. This is similar to when double amputee Oscar Pistorius stepped up a category and raced against single leg amputees at the last Paralympics. Some people say it isn't fair to me but I am ok with this as it's either that or I don't go at all and I still plan on going there to win. I am sure there will be a marathon in my own class some day at the Paralympics as more people get involved with running.

I remember watching this live. I wasn't into running at the time...and knew nothing about triathlon. But I remember the end of this race vividly.

I think Rick will be interviewed live on CBC Ottawa after 1800 (6 pm) tonite. They gave a "teaser" and I'm pretty sure it's about Rick.

I never seen the newscast but I heard I was on both CBC and CTV news. I do remember telling them that I feel like a coiled up spring that is going to let go on race day. I will be on the Team 1200 running show live today sometime after 1pm. It was really cool to have breakfast with all of the elite runners and I sat with Eric Gillis who is running the 10k today. Merga was there as well and they will be going for the WR for 10k.
