My primary goal is to get below 3:15 at the Vancouver Marathon. Any other results will be icing on top of the cake.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

2010 = What a great running year for me. PB's were set at each distance I ran (I was so determined to do this that I ran a 10 miler in late November! ). I am also 53K away from 3,600K for the year. I was injury free and healthy (not even a cold!) all year. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to accomplish this again! I'm not getting any younger :? .

My only disappointment was not BQing in Chicago. With the standards probably changing, who knows if I will ever be able to now. Having said that.......

2011

I will finally publically state that I am going to run the Good Life Toronto Marathon on May 15. No way will I be able to train for this like I do for a fall marathon, but hopefully some consistency and residual fitness will carry the day. Also I am so familiar with the course, and it starts literally at the back entrance to my condo. Slip a subway token, some gels, and cell phone into my race pack and I'm good to go. I'm hoping this helps, and that the weather gods are more on my side. If training gets derailed for whatever reason, I'll slip into the half - but I'll do something this day.

Also, I hope to work towards my speed goals 22/45/1:45 - but hmmm.... these seem like they might be a bit harder than I anticipated. The half will have to wait until the fall (probably Scotia).

ATB will be the kickoff, and a real indication of how much fitness I've been able to retain this winter.

Thanks for listening!
It's not the size of the dog in the fight...it's the size of the fight in the dog! 11K Marker post - 2010 ATB.

With a slew of PBs this year and a doubling of my total mileage it looks like I will have to set the bar higher again.

1) Sub 1:45 half marathon
2) Sub 45 10km
3) Sub 21 5km

I will post a goal for my first marathon in due course, as I am not sure what I am capable of at this point.
PBs
5th Sep 2015 - Run Ottawa free 5km - 21:05
21st Jun 2015 - UR 4 Men's Cancers 10km - 45:45
16th Jun 2013 - UR 4 Men's Cancers 15km - 1:11:44
16th Apr 2016 - MEC 10 miler - 1:20:21
12th Apr 2015 - EY R4R Half Marathon - 1:41:15
26th May 2013 - Ottawa Marathon - 3:43:51

2017 races - coming up
7th May - Defi Entreprise 10km
28th May - Ottawa Half Marathon
17th Sep - Army Run Half Marathon

Overall, my main goal is to keep running consistently and not lose focus. As for racing goals:

A - complete my first marathon (QCM in September)
B - sub 1:40 half

Run enough to stay in shape for my ultimate running goals. I'm aiming to BQ and qualify for NYC in 2012. Ride my bike on the trainer when I can't run. Run the Mother's Day 10k race and Melissa's this fall.

I've also had a really great year - ran more than ever before, and smarter (IMO!). I have only really thought about the first half of the year at this point, and am still toying with ideas for the second half.

So:
- Run my second ATB (time goal TBD)
- sub-5 hour marathon at Mississauga

Then, I am debating between a fall marathon, and taking the second half of the year to scale back the distance in favour of focussing more on speed (a more sub-30 5K, maybe even a sub-60 10K), and a few fun races I have had my eye on.

Why doesn't Disney count? It's still a half-marathon...or is it that you are not going to race it?

Training Goals

1)Back to the weights , started upper body and core workouts mid Sept
2)Slow things down, last year all my shorter runs were at a 4:50 pace. Since mid Oct I have slowed it down to a 5:30 pace. On Tuesdays I a doing a 6-9K tempo run at a 4:30 pace. Will add some Fartleks to my middle distance runs in the spring.
3)Nov/Dec mileage was 2/3 of the previous 10 months. I geared down to allow the things that hurt a chance to heal and will be building it back up to the 300K a month I did last year by February cranking it up another 50-100K by March.
4)More cross training!

Running Goals

1)Boston April 18th, do I race it or just run it …jury’s out on that one!
2)My first 100 miler , Sulphur Springs May 28
3)PB the 10K just to prove I am not slowing down the year I turn 50!
4)130K at the Dirty Girls 24 hours
5)Try not to scare off the wild life in Halliburton

This isn't meant to sound whiny....though it might....I don't mean it that way.

In 2011 I'd like to run again. I'd be quite content with just a nice, little 5 or 6 km loop in my neighborhood a couple times a week. That isn't asking for much is it?

Here's hoping for injuries to finally heal in 2011.

Tough. Right now my main focus is to run a sub-9:00 50 miler. I know that sounds crazy stacked up against all these 5k & 10k goals but I think it would be something cool to be able to do. After that it is get myself and MrsS to Boston...and loosing 10lbs wouldn't hurt either :)

Robinandamelia wrote:1) Participate in some of the 5 Peaks Trail running series. Did my first trail race in November (Fat Ass) and loved it
2) Qualify for Boston...Missed it by less than 4 minutes 3 times this year (the closest was off by 1:02). Going to try and pace to 10 minutes below my qualifying time this year (which would be 3:50). This would hopefully cover me off if they change qualifying times as well.

You will LOVE the 5 Peaks series - they are THE best running series EVER!!!! (IMHO)

My goals for this year -
1) Marathon! - I'm trying to figure out a training schedule for ATB so if I can get that done I hope to run my 1st marathon this year. Still trying to decide on which one - hopefully a Spring Marathon.
2) Stay injury free and stick to a training schedule.

Mine:

NYC marathon (with La)
Mississauga 1/2 in May
Some distance at NCM, maybe the 10 again.
Army 1/2
Other stuff, TBD really.

I got my eye on the prize which is NY and everything else that lines up on the way will be considered.

Montreal 1/2 - April 29
NCM 1/2 - May 27
Manitoba 1/2 - June 17

I might be up for the 10k at NCM with you. I'm not sure I'll be in half shape by then.

I'd really like to to the Army 1/2 this year and maybe one other late half, tbd.

My intention is to arrive in Vancouver healthy, strong and lean. I don't think I will try for a pb at that race, but do a good job with it.

I would say "healthy, strong and lean" are the characteristics I seek. This may lead to faster, maybe not; but it should provide high productivity.

Races:
OMG, I want to race. In order of priority:
Vancouver full (May)
Edmonton (not sure if full or half) (August)
Rock Bridge Revenge (Sept) and/or Dogwood Canyon (Oct) trail 50k.
2 halfs before Vancouver
Lunar Trek 50k (July)
Maryville full (June)

April: Greenwood 10k - aiming for 57 and change
May: Cabot Trail Relay Race - Leg 1, 17km - aiming to hit the mats at 1:42
October: Valley Harvest Half, aiming for 2:05

There will also be a 5k in there somewhere, aiming for 27 and change.
