Saturday Comes Once A Week

Postby Sustain26 » Sat Nov 19, 2011 7:55 am

Hello!
What to get at Running Room's 20% special for winter? I would love a wick away your sweat from your back top or base layer. Is there a suit in the catalogue - like the skin divers?
During any successful session, one might and should have a moment of truth, "should I continue or just walk home?". If you don't break down, the same thing might happen a few hundred steps later, but you already dealt with that issue. This usually happens in the second half, anyways. The satisfaction one derives later, when at home, is extremely gratifying, and is a build up like no other to further efforts.
(The "Lord, have mercy!" anecdote.)

Off to do 16 - 18 k on a chilly morning. I am hoping the streets are not icy. My last (& first) long run before the Vegas half.

Got convinced to join Dave's masters swim group last night. Oiy. There's a reason I don't swim with masters - was a tough swim (way way too much kick which I totally suck at) - got in 2400m.

Today - it's frigid here. Currently -20 and a windchill of -30. Size5 and I are running the Sight Night fun run tonight - 8k at 6pm. Should be frosty and 'crisp'. Main goal is just run as hard as we can and we'll see where that ends up.
Race Hard. Race Happy.

An hour on some of the prettiest trails in Eastern Ontario (IMHO). Beautiful day for a run.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

I am getting out for a walk/run today, even if it's a walk with the dog. We got fresh snow and my fever has been down since yesterday...

Hold that thought! On a very related subject, this city dweller 'just' discovered a railroad track. Does the shoulder - crushed gravel, not meant for walking/running - with proper trail shoes present an opportunity for trail runners? Trails will ice up, on occasion, so the alternative might be worth it.

Sustain (had a recovery run this AM - as in a 7 week recovery - felt good!)

10.6km done this morning - mostly hills. Feels weird not running a longer distance but 10km is more than my injury is allowing me.

26k this morning, I had planned on 30 but by 16k I could tell I wasn't going to make it home in time for my wife to make her appt. so i cut it short.

First run in tights of the year and it was a tough run, walked up a couple hills, but it was a good anyway.

Boooooohoooooo... I feel my fitness slipping, slipping away... I haven't run since Sunday b/c of my cold, and I tried today and lasted about 3 minutes before I started coughing. I don't know if I'm just being a suck, but I feel like I should wait a bit longer. It's probably not the worst thing in the world for my IT band to have a bit of a break, either, I guess. It's really nice out and it would be lovely to get out and run!! Ah well. I had a nice time shopping with La and RA for a bit!

8K "race" in the cold (-22 WC -33). It was actually kind of comfortable as a tempo run and my time (32:27) edged out the windchill reading. Ironically, this winter running prowess earned me a two month pass to the local fitness center where I could run indoors.

This morning I almost wished I had a treadmill... crash had to drag me kicking and screaming away from the heat vent in my entranceway!!!! WOW it was cold outside, but the unbelievable view of the snow dusted mountains with all the trees and the sunrise made it all worthwhile.

I am thinking I might need to use my running room coupon to get some thicker gloves, because neither of my other pairs are working for me!

Saturday Comes Once A Week

Postby KBO » Sat Nov 19, 2011 5:30 pm

Snowy, cold day. Winter has arrived. Blech. Ran inside at the Gritty Grotto at the University.10 miles done in decent time. Felt woozy for a couple of hours afterwards, probably from running in circles for so long. ;-)

Two weeks to Vegas, so to celebrate I bought some new running tights at Lulu that have awesome pockets for carrying gels. Now I'm race ready.
