Running and it's -37 ...ghhh

Postby Iron-North » Sat Feb 11, 2012 5:50 pm

So where does motivation comes when the low 35s and less hit?

It's not that the cold is cold but it's all the gear.
The cold air in my lungs even tough I breath through my neck warmer.
The frozen solid neck warmer and hat and eye lashes after 15 minutes of running.
The weight of all the clothes.
The snow covered roads.
The frozen toes.

How do you deal with it? I have a hard time going for my runs these days ...
Please inspire me!

How long can you make it?
I feel there is no air! I am suffocating! why?

I've never run in temps as cold as that, LN. You are braver than I am!

Um, aren't you the one who lived in Yellowknife for 20 years? And you're asking us for advice on dealing with the cold?

Will you stop laughing at me??!!

Ha ha really like ... I know better but sometimes I need guts to do it over and over and over again. Tomorrow won't be too too bad forcast is -39 WITH wind included in the package.

I feel claustrophobic when I have those layers on AND run!!! I need courage but the suck it up  idea from JoJo the super running machine sort of helps ... for one more time ...

And hey Spirit runner miss you too of course! Life is busy busy and at time we converge to other pastures ... these days I think of you all and remember the good old days ... awww

I start lacking motivation to go out at -20 so I can't imagine -40!!! You are stronger than me Hélène!

Have you considered running backwards ?
Minus 51 would only be -15 and minus 41 only -14.
Of course you wouldn't want to try it at -37 :)

So I did go for that run and it was horribilus. My hands took over 20 to warm up. I was in pain.
My feet were ok cuz I had heating pad for my toes.
By the time I started warming up at around 45 minutes i started to get cold again. My thighs became very sore from the cold. I swalloed i don't know how many ''booboos'' from my scarf and neck warmer. My eyes lashes were constantly sticking together and I was running at a ridiculustly slow pace hahahahahaahhaaha!

Forcast -20 no wind this morning! Soooooo warm man!

Or maybe I should run backwards today?? he he !

I don't think I'm tough I just don't have a choice.
Run today was ok. The way back wind blowing and blizzard coming from the west.
I was so mixe up with my hats and hair and neck warmers ... Everything was a mess but I did have a good time.

I had warm soup coming home hmmmm!

Wow! All I can say is wow! I mean running in such cold weather and soooo north of almost everywhere else.

Am I the only one to have google-mapped Puvirnituq, Qc? And then clicked "zoom out" eight times to get a perspective of how far this place is?

I spent some time on your website. You do have really nice paintings on your website. Les toiles "Ruban de soie" et "Cacophonie" sont fantastiques!
