Iroquoia Trail Test - August 18
Iroquoia Trail Test - August 18
Are any maniacs running this event?
They have several distances - 8 km, 15 km, 32 km, and 50 km. Mostly run on the Bruce Trail near Kilbride, Ontario.
I have signed up for the 32 km as a training run for the JFK which has the first 15.5 miles mainly along the Appalachan Trail in Maryland. Mrs. Tortoise and I just returned from scoping this part out in person and I definitely need some practise runs along similar terrain.

Re: Iroquoia Trail Test - August 18
I do hope to be there doing the 15. It is a tough course in spots, having taken a toll on several capable and experienced maniac trail regulars. You be careful out there my friend!
next up:
This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day
So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day
This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day
So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Yeah! I figured that it would be. The Appalachan Trail is the same ( except no stream crossing!) It will be slow and careful for tortoises for sure. Thanks!
Re: Iroquoia Trail Test - August 18
Having done JFK, take it slow the first 15 miles. You want to come out of there with no bloody knees or worse. I can tell you from experience the rocks don't move when you stub your toe on one! Its a great great race though and its a lot of fun. It was also my first 50. Good luck in your training.
Re: Iroquoia Trail Test - August 18
I'm strongly considering 32k. I was vaguely considering 50k, but after last weekend have decided to be realistic.
The road to hell is paved. Run trails.

I will keep you up to date, but I'd say it's pretty likely I'll be there.

Should be a good one. Weather looks fine, I just hope the course has a chance to dry up a bit by Saturday. Those rocks are slippery when wet!

Post-race catering provided by 'Pigout Roasters' and embroidered sweatshirts is what did it for me..... sounds awesome

Be sure and say "Hi". I stand out since I'm just under 6' tall. Ken B and Doonst are tall, too, as is DoonstSO. Come join the land of giants.

Will do. I'll be wearing a red sleeveless top... though it sounds like it will be muddy pretty quickly
See you guys in the morning!

What a great day for a trail race! The course was dry, and it was as cool as any day this summer, yet sunny. I had a fine time, the old body held up okay and my result was as good as I could have hoped for, in the 15 K. Saw Barbara and Ken briefly, and met Killerz after. Good times!

Yep! Great day for this event. After doing the 32 km I was very tired but upbeat. I would NOT do this event in the rain. However, that wasn't a problem. Even the temperatures this morning made everything more bearable. I chatted with Barbara, Stephan, and Kinga. I also had a passing conversation with Sheldon ( I was passing him as he encouraged me before his event. ( Thanks, Sheldon - it was good to see you!) I did see Killerz ( I think - red , sleeveless top) as he was heading for home on my way out. Race report will be posted later.
