I wonder what his family will do? Put him in the corner of the living room and use him to hang laundry on to dry?

Hmm an 8min mile 4-5x a week. I wish running was that simple.

the article says that if you run one 8-minute mile 4-5 times per week then you'll have good fitness. That's not enough exercise to be "good fitness."

the article says that if you run one 8-minute mile 4-5 times per week then you'll have good fitness. That's a bit low.
I disagree. It probably puts you in the top quartile of fitness. It only looks low when you hang around with other dedicated runners.

it's just that even the American heart association and the like recommend 30 min/day 4-5 days/week. That's a lot more than 8 minutes.
Also, I question the speed- for many less-than-fit people, an eight-minute mile won't even be aerobic.

A 'brisk" 8 minute mile will do far more for the all around fitness level of the average person than half an hour of slogging 10-11 minute miles.

Keep in mind, that recommendation was made a very long time ago (60s?).
An 8-min mile is challenging for me.

Yeah, I had to do a lot of "slogging" before I was even capable of running a mile in 8 minutes.

I ran an 8 min mile underwater once.
(through the detroit tunnel during the Detroit Marathon, but I got a nice certificate saying I ran it underwater).

Re: Inventor of the treadmill dies
I've never run an 8 minute mile, so I guess if I did that a few times a week I'd be in better shape than I am now. :P

That's about 12 kph for 1.61 km right? (I just woke up from a nap and don't trust my math...) I think I have a new goal!!
