I missed gnu! Over dressed was the word of the day. Anyone else agree that the changes they made in the first half made it tougher overall? Still enjoyed it!

My legs and feet were cold by the time I started my half of the race. It took me a while to warm up, but once I got to the 18K mark (where we were protected from the wind), off came the gloves. Shortly after that I had to roll my vest down and pull up my sleeves. Sweat was dripping down my face and into my eyes.

Turned into a great day today. Loved having the company out on course as well. Jacqueline even waited while I made my port-o-potty stop :)

Yep! I had a tougher time this year than last year. Nice to leap frog with Purdy for the first part of the race!! She is a speedy little bunny! It was also great to see so many maniacs. A great group from Ottawa was a great addition to the day. And hey - I was able to say hi to Mini-T.. Nice to see you!! :)
I didn't see Sylvie after the race but did get a chance to chat a bit before the race and firm up some plans for Sulphur Springs in May.

Sorry I didn't get to meet you guys. I arrived just in the nick of time for the start, about 15 minutes before the gun, and had a family to meet up with afterwards. It was an awesome day, and I shouldn't have second-guessed my wardrobe choice. I doubled up my shirts, when a single layer would have sufficed. It never seemed to get that windy. I agree that the first part was tougher (and stinkier!) with the course change.

After many years of missing this race, it was nice to finally be there - even if it was for the relay and not the full 30km.
Nice to see so many familiar faces.

I couldn't compare the first leg to anything but it had a few overpasses/bridges to keep it rolling.
I enjoyed myself and I owe a debt of gratitude to Wes and Ed for dragging my can along for the final 3 km before I passed the chip to La.

I tried to find the section you guys were in, but I ran out of time and had to get back to the group I was running with. I think we must have been on the opposite side of the arena. This was my first ATB and I had a blast, despite overheating a bit because of my long sleeves and winter running pants. I didn't set a goal time at all because I am training for Mississauga full, so I didn't want to add to my already shaky hamstring troubles. Loved seeing so many friends out on the route, it helps when the race is held practically in your backyard. Although I can't say all our Sunday runs along North Shore helped me much today, I was tired by about the 16km mark and got slower and slower from that point on. But all in all it was an awesome race :D

Anyone else agree that the changes they made in the first half made it tougher overall?

Into the wind 3K to 10K and then also 11K to 17K I found I had to draft off big dudes in big clothes to avoid the wind when it picked up. It seemed to work well though they could me shadow running beside them on the latter.

Yep, 3-4 rolling hills on overpasses and headwinds on the first half of the new course, sure felt harder than the precious "flat" portion ....

Last minute desion to wear capris, VERY happy I did. Every year I say, wish I would have trained for this race, did fine today with minimal log runs, even fewer medium runs, and frankly it isn't worth it to change for short runs.
I think this is the next revolution in running, not training. LOL

fyi ... for all you Ottawa and surrounding area peeps, Ross, the ATB Bus/Hotel Organizer to Hamilton will no longer be offering this trip in the future, due to various reasons ... Over the past 8 years, it has gone from a small group to 2 bus loads of over 100+ people and continues to grow with demand ... Due to both logistics and liability issues ... He is hoping that another Organizer / Organization (Charity ??) would take over the operations and allow it to continue to Grow and Prosper in the next few years ...

If anyone have any leads on someone and/or an Organization that may be interested, let me know, and I can forward the information to Ross ...

In the meantime, unless there is a new organizer willing to take this venture up and/or able to find a car pool of sorts, this year may have been my last ATB for a while, unfortunately ... :(

Wow, can't believe the photos are already up - got an email around 6:00 this evening.

Some of them are pretty good, including a finish line shot that shows the clock. :)

A nice race report from Krista DuChene at Around the Bay ...

For most of the week, the forecast predicted a high of 6 C with 5 km/h winds. Sounded good to me. But as it ended up, the temperature was around 0 C, which was totally fine but the winds were 25 km/h. And that was just too much. I gave a solid attempt and was running with a few guys for about 12K with a 10K split of 34:59. I am not great at remembering course layouts, but did notice that there seemed to be more hills in the beginning with this year’s new route. Sure enough I was right. The first 10K was totally different than other years. After about 12K, I was solo for the remaining 18K of the race. I decided I would wait for the 15K mark before adjusting my game plan, at which point, with a time of 52:43 and the wisdom and experience of knowing the last hilly 10K wouldn’t be any faster, I realistically decided to go with the “solid effort” finish. My last two 10K splits were 35:49 and 36:25. Not pretty

Searched for runners in this forum and did not see anybody with the "running mania" shirts.Had a blast in the 5km anyways and liked a lot.Finished second in my age group(45-49) and with a new PB 19:41:1 !!!!!,way too many speedy kids,LOL....Next year will go for the 30km to get things ready for a full marathon.
Hope i could find somebody from here at the Scotiabank Half in Montreal at the end of the month...Happy training everybody!!!
Will run through hell as i had been there before!!!

We meet on the upper level - Section 122 before and after the race each year. I had a runningmania shirt on but under a jacket. I also wore a runningmania buff as a headband. Sorry we missed you.
