Ed Whitlock update

Postby Doonst » Wed May 08, 2013 9:51 am

From Inside Halton:
Whitlock refuses to let knees slow him down. The 82-year-old has had to take some time off this spring but hopes to be back running marathons by the fall.

Inflammation in his knees has sidelined Whitlock this spring, though. So rather than running the Waterloo Marathon, he served as the race’s ambassador.

“They’re OK at the moment,” he said of his knees. “I probably could have done the half marathon (in Waterloo), but I knew I wouldn’t be able to take it easy.”

Whitlock plans on returning to action in June, easing back in with a 10-km race in New York state and the Cambridge Classic Mile closer to home. Whitlock isn’t promising any more records for the moment, though.

“I'm still a long way from fully fit,” he says, though he could probably still outdistance most people half his age. “It takes a while.”

“Hopefully I’ll be able to run well and run a marathon by the fall.”
next up:

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

I think I've missed something. Didn't he retire from running after the Scotiabank race last fall?

Fauja Singh has packed it in, though I think he ran one more race after ScotiaBank.
