161/204 Tuesday

Postby Spirit Unleashed » Tue Jun 10, 2014 6:56 am

In honor of Habs, carried the thread title theme another day.

I'm at work. Morning workout done. I have a meeting this evening so don't know if anything else will happen.

Woke up feeling a little under the weather. Think my body is saying REST after 6 weeks of no rest, a trip to Cape Breton, a trip to Washington for a half marathon, a marathon, 9 adult visitors and a baby, plus overtime at work almost everyday. Phew.

Morning! Gorgeous morning here in the GTA! As a result I went a bit further than intended. 13K was the distance with 10 X 30s strides along the Hydro Corridor.

Good morning! Normally I would have run about 12 km this morning, but my running buddy is out of town and my left heel is giving me some issues, so I made it a day for 6 miles on the elliptical instead. Re: the heel. For some time now - for sure this started before Boston - I have noticed some pain in my left heel at the beginning of a run, very localized, which typically disappears within the first 1 to 2 km. For the remainder of my run, there will be a bit of discomfort or no particular sensation at all. And then nothing afterwards. It's annoying, but since it was so self-limiting, I was more or less ignoring it. However, in the last couple of weeks I've started to notice that same pain when I first get up in the mornings, or a few hours after exercise. The Internet Doctors tell me that it might be a plantar fasciitis issue. I've started wearing the infamous Strassberg Sock at night and it seems to make a difference. A few days of rest from running might be in order but that sure is hard to do...

I think I need one more rest day. My legs are still feeling pretty fatigued and sore! Better today though than yesterday. :)

Easy 10ish km for me this morning, mostly on trails. I'm in a bit of a mini taper- headed off to the Adirondacks tomorrow afternoon with my 13 y/o daughter for a couple days of backpacking, and then racing on Saturday- the Great Adirondack Trail Run.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

Speedwork Tuesday: 8x1K threshold (3:40, 3:39, 3:38, 3:37, 3:36, 3:35, 3:34, 3:30) with 200m jog recoveries + WU/CD for 15K. A grade 10 kid tagged along for this workout and it looks like we'll have to keep an eye out for him in a couple years.

5K for me in greenbelt. I turned my ankle about 1.5K in and hobbled on for the rest of the run and actually finished in decent time. It's starting to stiffen up now though, so I could be nursing it a bit for the next day or two. It's been a while since I've sprained an ankle, good to feel it again, LOL

It should have been an easy 6.6k run tonight but it felt hard. According to Garmin we were hitting some quick paces but I don't know if I believe it. I needed to up my drugs, my lungs are not liking the air quality these days.
