Boston Marathon - KenB vs LisaP - It's on!

Postby purdy65 » Tue Mar 31, 2015 7:36 am

So let's add a little levity and fun to the event ok?

I'll set the stage:

Ken: Bib 25149 Wave 4 Corral 2
Lisa: Bib 24358 Wave 4 Corral 1

Corral 1 and 2 begin at the same time - 11:15. Ken will be about (as you can see) 800 runners behind me.

Yesterday on FB Ken mentioned that he would like to keep sight of me in the first half - presumably then, catching up, passing and passing me. And if he does that, will he pay for it on the Newton hills?

I asked if this was a 'shallonge'. Indeed it was.

Bring it I say!

You may place your bets! Will about a 5 minute head start be enough for the little old lady to fend off the fittest septuagenarian we know?

Stay tuned!

This is actually a fun one, because it can play out regardless of race conditions.

PS - Let's keep this light hearted, as that is the intention.

Sounds fun, but there's no way he sees you if there's so much as one person between the two of you. I suggest that you move back a corral and start beside him. That way, if it ends up being a furious Ben Hur finish 26.1 miles later, nobody will be sitting on a cushion of chip time.

 Ken is on FB, he just got a cell phone!

As for the shallonge, that is a tough call. You are both excellent runners and disciplined at keeping your pace. I think it's going to be a wash, which would mean you both ran a great race and stuck with your plans.

Agreed. I think this is the best way. Moving back the corral makes sense for the Shallonge. My money is on Lisa. Break him on the hills. May the pace be with you.

You came to see a race today. To see someone win. It happened to be me. But I want you to do more than just watch a race. I want you to take part in it. I want to compare faith to running in a race. It's hard. It requires concentration of will, energy of soul. You experience elation when the winner breaks the tape - especially if you've got a bet on it.--Chariots of Fire

Ah, but no chip time involved. Whoever crosses the finish line first!

In any case, this has the potential to be the most hilarious sight on the course!

Sounds like fun. :)

But I agree that the only way it makes sense is if you start together. Otherwise, with 1000 people in each corral, there's very little chance he'll be able to see you at any time in the race.

It sounds like fun and I'll join the chorus that is suggesting you start together. Corral 2 is nice and close to the front. Lucky!

As long as this isn't a "tortoise vs hare" race. :) Ken is the tortoise but I don't think Lisa is the hare. ;)

Regarding starting together. That is not fair to Lisa. If , indeed, I can catch her it will be later in the race and the crowds with thin out a bit. I will be checking constantly thus taking my mind off my own misfortunes!! :)

Ken. It was on one of my status posts on fb! I just ended up formalizing it and starting a little fun.

This might actually help get me through those hard miles! :)

Exactly my thoughts, Lisa! Just something to add a bit of fun to the day. If , indeed, I do find you in the crowd, my aim would be to run with you until about 100 metres from the finish and then all bets are off! :)
