Good luck Sherry. The half is a super fun distance to race. Have a blast, and then go ahead and brag to us all you want after the race. We'll understand...

Hey neat! Seems there are several of you non-Montreal forumites coming into town that weekend!!!!

:D

It's true - registering and announcing are what I always use to make sure I stay committed! (And with PEI, buying a plane ticket helped too!)

If I may hijack this thread for a moment... I've heard about doing a half while training for a full. If my full is Oct 16 - would it be good or bad to do the Montreal half Sept 11??? Please let me know... I've been thinking and thinking about doing this one....

It can be a big confidence boost. Timing is everything - you don't want to do it in place of a 28K+ run or too close to race day, but if you were meant to run 21-24K that day, go for it. Chances are you'll want to do it at Marathon race pace.

And, of course, this depends ENTIRELY on how experienced you are, whether you are injury free, what your goals are, etc. It's not just a simple yes/no answer. My answer to everything is alway, "It depends."

Aww man! Now I feel like I'm back in MBA school!!!! That's what they always said there.....

I think I will arrange my long run schedule to fit it in. It's my third marathon, and I've been injury free up to now, and very active all summer (though running more on ultimate and soccer fields than pavement), and I've already gotten a couple of 21k runs in. So I think I might go for it! Thanks.

And, that having been said ... during my marathon build up last year, I decided to do the Peterborough 1/2 in lieu of a 27K long run, and my Coach had me do a 2-3K warmup before the race and another 2-3K after the race to complete my 27K run for that day ... And, yes, it was at my projected marathon pace .... woo hooo .... andy :) Peace !!!

You are going to do great.

Only problem is you'll be hooked on half-marys. But thats not really a bad thing.

Can't wait to read the race report.

What incredible support!! :D

Not sure whether I was stoked from the thrill of registering, the good wishes and support that I received here today, or the cooler temperature (probably all of them) but I shaved some time off of my 10 km tonight (58:36 mins). 6.43 to 5.52 pace per km.

Thank you!!! :D

Have fun and good luck!!

And I concur, Montreal is a FABULOUS city....one of my favorites.....a close second behind Halifax (I have to be loyal to my homeland).

I am looking forward to hearing the race report...cus I might just do that one next year, ya never know.
