Tuesday; first day of Autumn!

Postby Mark.AU » Tue Mar 01, 2016 12:53 am

Well, here it is.

5.5km in 22C, warm, muggy, soupy air along the south shore of the Parramatta River with the sun rising over my left shoulder bathing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and CBD in golden dawn light.

I'm fairly certain we've had this conversation before. Australian Autumn starts today for 3 calendar months, but the equinox is the 20th. Not sure the reasoning behind it.

Wishing for spring here, but alas, a snow storm is in the forecast!

Up and at it early this morning. A bit cold, so I opted for a TM tempo run this morning.

1mile warm up, then 5miles @ 7.5-7.7m/k. Finished off at 6.6 mph for a total of 12K in 1:02:20. Fantastic workout!

Now proceeding with my second non-routine day! Have lots on the schedule.

Have a good one

Yes. I've heard the Weather Network dude talk about how "Meteorological Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter" start on the 1st of March, June, September, and December (even though the actual equinox/solstice isn't until 20 or so days later).

"Equinox" is an astronomical concept and some people prefer to define their seasons to correlate better with weather.

14K loop, some fresh snow and cooler air made for a nice run for the parts where I wasn't in danger of being run down by inattentive drivers.

Got a nice hard workout in before the weather will get bad. Still cold though. I forgot what -7 felt like!

We live in the D'harawal Nation and the traditional owners of this land call this time of year the Burran (hot and dry), which is Kangaroo mating season. In another month or so it will become Marrai'gang (wet, becoming cooler), when the cries of the Marrai'gang (quoll) seeking his mate can be heard and it is the time when the lilly-pilly fruit begins to ripen on trees. There are six seasons in the D'harawal indigenous calander, all oriented around weather and/or flora and fauna changes.

13 miles on the trail. Hard. My legs were super tired (maybe from the weekend, maybe from lack of fitness, maybe from the low carb diet... or all of the above).

Cold, windy and snowy here. Out for a 2 1/2 hour walk/hill run/walk this morning.
