One of the bigger stories out of the Paralympics this week was the top four runners in the T13 1,500m final running a faster time than the Olympic gold medallist in the 1,500m from a month earlier. Matt Centrowitz, the Olympic 1,500m champion, ran 3:50.00 in a highly-tactical race last month, the slowest winning time since 1932. Is it a fair comparison?

I wouldn't call it fair or not fair - just shows the journalists covering the games don't really understand the sport!

Re: Is it fair?
Running for place is vastly different than running for time. Even I can tell, and I never ran track.
Plan for 2017:
END-SURE 25k...done! 2:30:23
Spruce Woods Ultra volunteering...done!
Kettle Moraine 100
Western States 100 crewing
Falcon Fatass 50k
Superior 100

Re: Is it fair?
I guess its technically correct, which is the best kind of correct. But his time to win the Paralympic gold would not have gotten him out of any of the heats or the semifinals. The only way this works is if you compare it to the finals.

Re: Is it fair?
If you start comparing when it looks pretty good, do you keep going even when it doesn't? It's a crappy road to go down, best to not even start - enjoy the competition for what it is and between who is there.
