1. First Kimetto pulls out.
2. now Kenya's former world record holder Patrick Makau "has withdrawn from the race due to an acute injury of the soft tissue surrounding his left knee. While Makau hasn't been in his 2:03:38 PB shape in a long time, he's ran decent the last few years with three consecutive 2:08 performances at the Fukuoka Marathon from 2014-2016 (twice for the win, once for 2nd).
3. US's Clara Santucci also pulled out with a hamstring injury.
4. No way Rupp can factor if Prague's foot trouble is legit.

Re: Boston 2017..elites are dropping like flies
Sad news...Gillis is out
Very unfortunate news this morning regarding one of Canada’s top marathoners just days ahead of Monday’s Boston Marathon. Eric Gillis of Guelph, Ont. was the only Canadian male on the elite start list but has sadly had to withdraw due to an Achilles injury and will not be lining up to start the storied race.
Rachel Hannah of Toronto who holds a personal best of 2:32:09 in the marathon is the only other Canadian elite and will be making her Boston debut. Rejean Chaisson, also of Toronto, is running Boston as part of the non-elite field but has been training well and could be the top Canadian.

Re: Boston 2017..elites are dropping like flies
That's too bad. Gillis represents Canada so well. Love that X ring - I'm a X grad, too .
We train more joyfully and productively when we focus on the now, rather than on our future race day performance. It's a long road from here to there with many miles to go. We need to run each one. Accept where you are today and simply be thankful for the work you've accomplished. KA
