Run in recovery from alcohol or drug abuse?

Postby Juhan » Mon Oct 02, 2017 8:43 pm

I was just wondering if anybody else here feels running has helped them to recover from alcohol or drug abuse.
I am curious based upon my own experience in this regard and as I am doing a study on the topic.
Thanks in advance!

I thought I remember seeing a study about this before. Certainly there have been lots of articles over the years, including about some running groups for recovering addicts in big US cities like New York, Boston and Chicago.

If I recall, in Ottawa, back in 2008 or so, Phil Marsh from Running Room led a group of residents at the Ottawa Mission House to kickstart a running program for recovering addicts, etc .. I believe that at least 8 of the participants completed the marathon? Not sure if the program is still continuing nor if those participants had continued to road to recovery and/or continues to run to this date? You could contact them directly, perhaps for additional information??
