I don't think there are as many in Vancouver as it's indicating in the article (are there? I don't really pay attention to road races).
Sounds like it's a much bigger problem in the states than here.
For trails, the demand is still outweighing the supply. Races are filled and sold out months in advance and as a result the prices have ballooned. That is a different problem from what he's describing, but it frustrates me. :/

That blog post was a few years old.
What I see is private companies taking over races. In it for the profit, they may not have such a great experience but charge more money. Some races do still give good swag for the money. Other races give bad swag for the money.

Yeah exactly. It's like asking if there are too many restaurants - if there are today, there won't be in a few months. The market will decide which are viable.

Why is that? Not enough RDs willing to set up races, or are the Conservation Authorities /land managers /etc getting in the way?
