special moments in RM history

Postby ultraslacker » Mon Feb 06, 2006 11:24 pm

Thought I'd start the list now so that we can keep adding to it. :)

July 26, 2005 - RM is born! We started out with a makeshift, unnamed forum located on my personal website... within days we had a name, a domain, and a core of fabulous members! (and I think within the first 24 hours Dave was already planning the first shirt order...)

July 28, 2005 - We officially register www.runningmania.com.

August 7, 2005 - Our first Maniac gathering, at the pre-race M&G for Marathon by the Sea.

August 9, 2005 - We have a logo! Thanks MoeMan!

September 16, 2005 - The funniest thread in our short history is born... and the word "manties" enters our collective vocabulary.

September 23, 2005 - Our first shirt order is shipped to Maniacs across the country!

February 6, 2006 - the day we got blacklisted from the runningroom forum. ;)

Feb 9, 2006 - The day Oprah said hi to us! (yay Cheryl!)

May 27-28, 2006 - Our members not only participate in a dozen races across the country, but they make big enough impressions to be mentioned in two newspapers (Ottawa and Halifax) and in an ultramarathon newsletter!

June 30-July 2, 2006 - The Orange Invasion. More than 60 Maniacs descend on Kingston and little Wolfe Island for the largest gathering to date. We also celebrated our birthday with a cake and a pirate!

July 26, 2006 - Our first birthday!!

Incredible!
What did we do? We are supportive of them. I buy all my kit there!
I used to run. All the time.
Now? Notsomuch.
I'm still a runner, though.

I love this place. I really really do. I applied for a nrew job today and listed my mod duties as an extrea curricular activity! (Luckily the job I applied for is at a gym so it is relevant!)
If RR idoesn't want us, that's ok. We are a great group and I would not change a single thing I have done since being here! NOT A ONE!!

Is it RunningMania that's blacklisted, or just "mania"? Anywho, we're competition, regardless of how much money we spend there as individuals.

Thanks for laying out the RM Story of Creation, Holly.

HCD named the forum
Moe came up with the logo

The name runningmania.com was officially registered on July 28, 2005.
Moe originally posted the logo on August 9, 2005.

What about the date that Hula Girl first made an appearance at a race?

 that was the Brockville Triathlon (got to get the date)...and Hula Girl emerged so that BMan and Irongirl would recognize a fellow Maniac.

Hula Girl regrets that she will not be at The Wolfe...but she is a Tri Girl..her first appearance this year will be at K-Town :D

And the original colors of the phpbb forum was like a turquoise color...

but of course that had to be changed to ORANGE!

I remember. But I remember Moe posting the logo, and I became a member on Aug 10, so I thought he posted it on Aug 10 or 11...perhaps I was just lurking that day.

February 6, 2006 - the day we got blacklisted from the runningroom forum. ;)

What's the scoop on this??? (I've been itching to know) I can't believe I missed out on the action on the RR forum (just when my computer died on me :x )

How did the RR admin know who to blacklist? Did you guys advertise this forum on the RR forum.

It wasn't until I came here that I saw Klewlis and Jacob again... nice to know that you guys are still alive... :D

None of us really knows what the reason was. RR bans the names of competitors, but we are hardly a competitor. In fact, most of our members shop at or take/teach clinics at the RR. When someone wants to train for a new distance, someone inevitably points them to a RR clinic.

In any case, it is a special moment in RM history....

speaking of that list...

does it need to be in our list of important dates? considering that, umm, we aren't adversarial towards any store?

yes...I think July 2 does belong in our history.....not because I was the person who spearheaded this event...but because this event I believe is the beginning of Annual Maniac Conventions/M&G's

At least that is my hope.... :D
