True Running Happiness

Postby Corpus Cani » Fri Oct 24, 2008 12:43 am

How may a maniac measure his/her own running happiness?

He/she must first go to their respective cupboards and take out all those running tee-shirts, lycra leggings, I-pods, garmins, heart rate monitors, suicide belts*, sunglasses.

Then they must lay them on the ground, end to end.
Then they must measure the length of this line of running accessories.

And that measurement, that distance, is exactly the same distance from true running happiness.

yours in running 'Uncle Cani'.

*fuel belts.
Not the quarry but the chase,
not the trophy but the race.

are you saying we'll all be happier if we run naked?

you don't have to be smug and tell others what should make them happy about running.

I think it's just his Aussie sense of humour coming through  My runs haven't included much lately, other than shoes and enough clothes to stay comfortable, and I must say they aren't any better or worse than when I ran with all my gear. I've just been too lazy lately to get it out for my runs.

  Good one.

I love the name suicide belt for fuel belt, with my upset stomach that is exactly what it feels like (and why it got left on the course in Detroit for my first marathon). I can't even think of having one of those around my waist without feeling a little ill now. I know they work for some, I wish they worked for me!

Many of us would be happy if SOME runners ran naked, however it might not be worth the price of having to see all the others "au natural"

To each their own, my running attire is a complete embarrassment to a couple of my running partners who are "in the business". They actually bribed me to stop wearing my old running cap. My main pair of running tights are cycling pants from the early 90's  Running gear lasts incredibly long if you don't use a dryer: my wife now insists I donate one or more piece of running clothing for every new one I add. I can't remember the last one I bought, it is all race gear.

For what it's worth, I do think a lot of people buy into marketing hype and buy way more than they need. But I'm not about to tell people that they are doing it wrong if they enjoy it.

If wearing (or not wearing sunglasses) were enough to affect my true happiness about running, I'd have to reexamine my concept of true happiness...

Ah yes, Phil at the RR is still jumping with joy whenever I see him, having donated over 5 full bags of new, slightly used running / race clothes to the Harvest House this summer ....

No worries CK.

Bunny Girl is not running naked...she is too totally pumped about working on her costume...she's thinking pink and orange is such a lovely combination.
She is thinking...feathers...and tulle crinolines...and sparklies....

Oh my...I know she is going to be a wondrous Bunny to behold :D :D

Google is my friend. And patience, perseverance...if I ever put these powers of mine towards good instead of procrastination, I could probably solve all the world's problems....

I was just thinking the other day how happy a pair of sunglasses would make me.

Not that I'm materialistic or anything. I mean they would probably have to be really cool sunglasses, to make any measurable difference to my happiness.

be sure they are polarized for maximum happiness. it's won't interfere with the cool.

keep an eye on steepandcheap.com as they often have oakley glasses for awesome prices (but they won't ship oakley to canada so you need a us contact to send them to you).
