It has been a Long Time

Postby The Donald » Tue Dec 14, 2010 11:52 am

It has been a few years since I was a rookie runner. The french woman wants to learn, but she wants to start on the treadmill. What pace would you recommend she try for her early efforts? We can fine tune it after.
No one cares what I would do; therefore, I can do anything!!

I ran 42.2k; Let's see the other donald try to trump that

Good for the French woman.

She should start at a pace at which she can talk normally, no matter how slow that may be, even if she feels she could walk that fast. The "talk test" pace will increase as she becomes more fit.

This. Plus start with a run-walk.

+1

I started with this http://www.c25k.com/

Very popular and it works.....though, I found I skipped quite a few of the beginning weeks as it's really meant for a total couch potato who isn't doing any exercising at all.

The french woman has found her first running pace. It is around 9:00 per km. (I won't tell her that I have another name for that pace; I call it a walk break) :shhh: At least she is starting!!!!

Good on her for starting!! If you value your marriage, (and your life  ), don't even hint that you think that way...... ;)

The slow pace MIGHT be because she's on a TM too. When I first got my TM about a month ago, I was sloooooooooooooow on the thing, much much slower than my outside pace, but that was more because I wasn't used to running on the TM (and there was the mental fear of being thrown off the back). It didn't take me long to adapt. So she might find, if she goes outside, that her pace is actually better.
