It will be interesting to see what the new course will be in Vancouver for 2012 .... any idea when all the information will be available? even a sneak preview of the course ... :shifty:

Oct 15 it will be released.

I thought the date on the email I got said Oct 5th

You're right- October 5.

Maybe I was remembering the date of the iPhone 5 release instead. :D

I like this thread! It will be easier to commit to participate than to write my own journal.

I need a 4:10 to BQ. My best time ever is 4:12 (but that was 5 years ago!)
I am registered for NCM 2012. BQing might be highly unrealistic...but if I stay injury free, at least I can try...

This summer, my 5K PB was 26 minutes...I will know about my 10K pb in a couple of weeks (I won't mention my disastrous half marathon and marathon times  both with a semi injured foot....) - so, who knows, but I would like to try and join this group!

Count me in! I need a 3:10, so I'm hoping to hit about 3:02 (5 minute pb).

I will need a 3:29:59 BQ Time for 2013, but would be aiming for at least a 3:25:00—STWM 2011 will be my first attempt -- ( current Marathon PB 3:29:09 ).

Thinking about Hamilton in November , I am registered for Marathon de Paris in April 2012 but I am running it as a tourist ... learned a lesson in Boston this year! Want to do Mississauga in May 2012 with a BQ in mind.

I'm going to try and qualify again as well, at STWM on the 16th. My goal is 3:53-3:55 which would be a PB and a BQ.

Won't run Boston again though. Will just do it once.

I am so in for this shallonge.

My new BQ time for 2013 is 3:55:00. With my one and only marathon being 3:59:33 I'm thinking that there is room for improvement. The question is can I make that 4 min plus improvement with just one more full. I am going to work my backside off to make it happen. Will take a healthy, injury free training cycle. My plan is to run Vancouver in May. I am curious to see what the course changes look like.

I love that this is (starting out as) a supportive shallonge, not a smack-talk shallonge :D

Good luck everyone. I'm going to be following your journeys!

With some good milelage training, I believe you can go 10-15min improvement, no 3:55 target for you, train for 3:45-3:50.

ditto +1, Jes .. as this is the BQ thread ....

The road to Boston 2013 next October and beyond will be when the smack-talk begins, once everyone is registered and accepted ...    :shifty:

I was waiting to see the result of my last 10K race of this year, to see if trying to BQ in 2012 could be even slightly realistic.
Of course, one 10K result does not a potential BQ make, but I wanted to see if I could be in the qualifying standard "ballpark".
I need 4:09:59 (or less) to qualify
So, today I ran 52:32 - this is a PB for me (by 2 minutes!) - so, ok, I am commiting to at least trying 8)

So the Striders are both in for this. Seeing Wineglass was a bust we are looking forward to Spring.
So here is the dilemma / plan / thought. I want to run my first 100miler at Sulphur next year and really don't want to be running a qualifying marathon too close to that. So we are currently targeting the Athens Marathon in Ohio April 1st. The concern in that MrsStrider with her lung issue at the moment may not be ready by then, so the latest thought is that we would both look towards Ohio, and if she isn't ready at that point then she'd treat it as a training run, and I'd race it. THEN we would both run Mississauga in May, me being her pacer.

Goal times? We both want to qualify under the new 2013 times minus 5min. So for me Sub 3:25 and for her Sub 3:55.

I'm in as well!!

Stats:
Required time: < 3:05:00
Estimated required time 3:03:30
PB: 3:09:29 (with heavy wind in last 8k)
Run about 2,000+ kms per year
Reasonability: Can run a 30k in about 4:20/k or 7:00/mi, or a half on target pace 1:29:59 (haven't raced a half in a while though)

Goals
Goal: sub 3:00s (it's been a long time goal anyways) to be in the -5 group
Goal Pace: 4:15/k or 6:52/mi

Target Race(s):
ATB - Goal 2 hrs (technically a 2:05 would be good enough)
Goodlife or Ottawa - 2:59:59 (haven't chosen a race yet)

Better idea if Ohio doesn't work out for Mrs.------ you both come to VANCOUVER in May and you can pace the both of us to sub 3:55 :D

Just thought I'd throw that out there

I don't belong in this thread but am intrigued.

I'd like to break 3:30:00 before the end of 2012. Current PB is 3:38:51 and I am hoping to break 3:35:00 in two weeks in my sixth marathon. I need 3:15:00 to BQ.

Realistically my first opportunity to BQ would be Fall 2016 when at the age of 43.9 I can qualify with a 3:25:00 to run in Fall 2018 at age 45.

So the record I may challenge is yours, Andy. I may be approaching 20 marathons before I qualify.

Now that I have commented, it will be easy for me to keep an eye on this thread. Good luck to all. :!:

Good luck Andy - Don't go out hard, negative split it!

Looks like we are out of the Shallonge. We came to the realization that Kim will not be in shape by next May to try and qualify, and there really isn't a Marathon I want to run (that is easy to get too) early enough to not jeopardize SS100. So I have almost 100% decided to run the Yukon Arctic Ultra Marathon in Feb, which I don't think is a BQ certified course - but I could use it for my Pike Peak application (if I decide to).

What about a road trip to Massey in July for qualification Mr. S.? That's a typical hole in my distance-racing schedule due to the heat in Southern Ontario so perhaps I could be talked into that one too.
