A Question

Postby The Donald » Sun Jan 06, 2013 11:32 pm

I am not quite where I need to be at this stage of my training. I have scheduled an 8k tempo run. I won't be able to do it. I will burn out at about 5k.

The question is this. Am I going to get more benefit out of a 5k tempo, or an 8k at a slower pace?
No one cares what I would do; therefore, I can do anything!!

I ran 42.2k; Let's see the other donald try to trump that

Tempo runs typically have good aerobic training benefits once they get to 20 minutes, so 5K is absolutely useful, especially if you can get to the same total distance with warmup and cooldown. Another related option to consider is to break the tempo portion into two or more shorter pieces separated by recovery jogs.
