March 2013 Training Goals

Postby orleansrunner1962 » Thu Feb 28, 2013 6:17 pm

March will be a big month, with some pretty long runs on Saturdays as I start to simulate race day routine..... I will be in the neighbourhood of 500 km for the month, with a continuation of the strength training, swimming, and hopefully a bit more x-country skiing before the white stuff melts.
2014:
Mar - Around the Bay 30 km - Done
May - Sulphur Spring 100 miler - DNS
Sept - Army HM
Sept/Oct - 50 miler
Oct - Pace Bunny - Toronto Scotia Waterfront
Dec - Reggae Marathon in Jamaica

Looking for an increase over February's mileage. If I go by the books I will be at about 175K but if things are feeling good and all goes well I'd like to try and up that a bit.
On the books for 2017:
50th Birthday!!
Boston Marathon- April 17th what a day- DREAM COME TRUE
Run for Water 10K- May 28th
Scotia Half - June 25th
Trail River Run half marathon- Sept. 30- CANCELLED
MEC 10K Race 10- Nov. 5

Even if it doesn't all go according to plan, March will probably wind up being my highest-mileage month to date. Not much by most people's standards here, granted - the plan is for something like 190km, but I'll settle for 150.
PR's so far: 5K 27:15, 10K 55:25, 21.1K 2:10:53, 42.2K 5:21:27
Upcoming: Toronto Women's 5k in May, STWM Half in October

Yes the build now seriously begins for Spring races. With 5 full weekends in March there should be some good mileage this month.

For me it will be a build in B2B weekend runs, increasing length of quality workout mid week, and maybe including a few more doubles mid-week. (But I am at the mercy of Spaff).

#1 is to stay healthy, so also to include Strength/Stretching/Roll/Chiro/Massage/Physio - every bit helps

If I'm still in one piece come April 1st, March will be my biggest month ever. I'm really looking forward to it and seeing how the body responds.

We're travelling the same road! I'm confident (hopeful) I'll make the journey in one piece :). It's exciting to enter some new territory, isn't it?

500 km! Good for you, Sylvie. I'm not quite ready for that road yet!!! But working to get there is a lot of fun...
We train more joyfully and productively when we focus on the now, rather than on our future race day performance. It's a long road from here to there with many miles to go. We need to run each one. Accept where you are today and simply be thankful for the work you've accomplished. KA

People have commented about the high mileage, and I thought it might be worth a couple of comments/clarifications -- my body seems to require high mileage in order for me to obtain the results I want in a race. I don't have "natural" speed, and I don't particularly enjoy speedwork, so high mileage is my way of getting the results I want while still having fun.

Also, my A race this year is a little "out there" -- 100 miles -- and to get there, I need high mileage. Everyone has different goals, and therefore different requirements for mileage....

I feel a little sad when I see people stating that there goal is "only" 175 km or whatever the mileage is..... I still fondly remember when I hit 175 km in a month of training, and I was OVER THE MOON! Whatever our goals are, if we work hard towards them, and we have some fun along with way, then we are going great!!

Enjoy the journey!! AND keep updating -- I LOVE reading what everyone is up to, beit 5 km or 50 km! :D

It sure is! I'm in a much better frame of mind compared to my last marathon training cycle. Here's hoping you have an injury-free, safe and fun journey. :)

Took a quick look at the training plan- should be somewhere in the 350-375km range I think. I'm a bit less rigid this time around than I was the last time I trained for a marathon- enjoying the process more rather than just thinking about the goal race.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

My main goal is to continue to run and train consistently, and train forward. I want to eek my long run up to 90 minutes (I did 83 minutes this week), but then keep it there for several weeks while I build the rest of my week. I would like to get back to 5 runs/week. Also I will continue to swim twice per week, since I have found it to be an excellent complement to my running.

I'll be very happy with around 300k. I'm hoping I can continue with strong tempo runs and some more back to back long runs.

Aiming for 350. Even with the week off I managed 250 in Feb so 350 is doable. Now to make sure work travel doesn't interfere too much. Now NO injuries is a must as well.

Me as well, seeing as I reinjured my right hamstring at last year;s ATB. I tripped over the rubber mat covering cables as I enterered the arena floor area. This year I may stop completely and carefully step over it!!!!
I am also training with my friend Mike who is doing Sulphur Sppring's 50 Mile Trail Race. As I am pacing Sylvie for a lap as well, and crewing for Laura, Sylvie, and Mike, it should be a great day! ( and night!!) :)

For March I have a number of goals:

- I'm going to move away from my "unstructured" running and switch into the structured training plan that I have for the 1/2 coming up in May in Ottawa. I want to get off to a good start and build momentum for when I head into the middle part of the training.
- I want to re-focus my diet and drop 2-3 pounds in March.
- I have a 10K race coming up and I want to use that to gauge the progress I've made since bumping up my milage from my last 5K race. I also want to push it a bit and use it as a way to test my mental focus.

I'm looking forward to a good March!

Well, at 7 months pregnant, my goal for this month is to run or bike mostly every day. I've been setting 30 minutes as my "goal time" for each run/bike, and barring any complications I'll stick to that for a while. But I've never run while pregnant before so I have no idea what to expect! I'm definitely not pushing myself like I normally do while running, and am just out to be active for now...

March goal: be active in some way shape or form

If all goes well I should be in the 300k range, which is new territory for me.

First off, remain healthy and injury free in March. I would also like to continue to build the success of my February and look to reach 170-175K mark for March, certainly a new goal for me in my half training. Now this is not new for me as I have gone over 200K in a month, but that was during my full training last year and this year I'm focusing on the half's.
PB’s (official race results)
5K – 26:20; 8K – 41:28; 10K – 52:13; 15K - 1:22:43; 21.1K – 1:54:16; 30K – 2:51:34; 42.2K – 4:24:14

TBA

Jun 9th - Puddle Jumper Classic

My main goal this month is to steadly up my weekly mileage and increase my aerobic capicity for longer runs.
