October 2013 Training Goals

Postby HCcD » Tue Oct 01, 2013 6:18 am

To continue to recover and get stronger, during this taper month ... Have a couple of 1/2 marathon bunny gigs, to keep me honest with my training and expect to be inside of 250K or so for the month ... Again, the key/focus is to remain healthy .... :P

I have a marathon at the beginning of the month, and the rest of the month will be recovery and just running for fun -- no structure!! Coach said "no more than 4 runs per week"......

There will be 3 swims per week, and I will be getting back to the gym to re-introduce a weight lifting/strengthening programme.

Also looking to drop a bit of weight (maybe 5 this month and 5 next month)......
2014:
Mar - Around the Bay 30 km - Done
May - Sulphur Spring 100 miler - DNS
Sept - Army HM
Sept/Oct - 50 miler
Oct - Pace Bunny - Toronto Scotia Waterfront
Dec - Reggae Marathon in Jamaica

Run 50K on October 5. That is all. :)

ETA: Starting on Monday, October 21 I am beginning "50 Days of Running to my 50th BD." I'm not a big fan of streak-based challenges, so it will be interesting if I can keep it up.

Once again, not much happening for me. 10k race on October 12, if my back feels good. Get my sore back straightened out so it doesn't keep happening. I'm guessing about 200k.

Not too much for me- pacing the Prince Edward County Marathon this Sunday, plan on an 8 mile road/ trail race in a few weeks, but other than that taking it pretty easy, other than wanting to do some hill circuit sessions on trails in prep for the Batawa 25K trail race in November.

I've had quite a few "up" months in a row, so I think I need some down time before the Boston Marathon training cycle starts in Jan.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

Run healthy again! I need to ease back into the mileage and hopefully run 21.1K at an easy pace in Victoria on October 13. If not, I can do the 8K. So no mileage goes, but just hope to be running happy.

Other than that I'm starting swimming again, so will get back to the pool 2-3 times per week. Excited. :) And... I'm getting in some awesome spin workouts to keep me moving.

Just continue building my base after the 10k I completed this weekend. In the past, I've tended to fade away from running once I've achieved a goal I've been training for. My MAIN goal this month is to stay motivated!

DONE! I love that my monthly goal was achieved in the first week of the month!

Though, I do still have this to come later in the month:

Ended up with 21x runs and 239K of running this month .... As it turned out with the number of races/events that I participated in, 2x 1/2 Mary gigs, 1x 10K and 1x 5K, ended up being quite a long taper ... though, the races, were close to tempo paced/efforts, along with over a 4 week taper since my last lsd run, should be interesting to see how the body reacts on race day ... Pretty sure that the cardio fitness is there for a sub 4-hour marathon goal pace, just not sure if the feet will be ready to handle 42.2K, as it will be my first marathon in 18 months .. :?

Total running for me in October: 104K in 19 runs

A very low volume month for me- the injury setback turned out to be worse that I originally thought, but I was able to do the 8K in Victoria. Also, swimming was hampering my recovery, so I have stopped that. And haven't done much spinning either, because I wanted to focus on running recovery.

Good news is I am running happy now, and will be able to build by sticking to low intensity running.

Victoria was the highlight in October getting a BQ in my favourite marathon. So many great things about this race and it was an enjoyable weekend overall. Funny how I find Vancouver to be overpriced yet I have no problem paying the additional ferry and hotel costs to run this race. It's that good.
