February 2014 Training Goals

Postby orleansrunner1962 » Sat Feb 01, 2014 11:19 am

February will see me smack in the middle of my 100-miler training, so I should see mileage in the area of 250km -- and I really hope to get some x-training in as well (and yep shed more pounds). All of this in a short month! :D
2014:
Mar - Around the Bay 30 km - Done
May - Sulphur Spring 100 miler - DNS
Sept - Army HM
Sept/Oct - 50 miler
Oct - Pace Bunny - Toronto Scotia Waterfront
Dec - Reggae Marathon in Jamaica

February is a training month, I should be doing half-mileage but will probably keep up with the full gang for most of their long runs. Run mileage will be between 130 -150 km. I will also try to fit in one swim a week and one spin workout a week.

I will be continuing with my marathon program, but I will have a half-marathon in the middle of the month. That will make the weekly mileage a bit less (with mini-taper and recovery); I should finish close to where I was in January but maybe a little less (around 260-270K).

February is a continuation of recovery and rebuild from January and Post-Dopey Challenge ... Have a week's cruise in the middle of the month on the Fun Run to Cruise on the Royal Princess in the Caribbean, along with the Fort Lauderdale Half Marathon ... As a result, expect another month of around 200-225K due to travel days, etc ...

It's a simple goal for me - get back up to running 10k as a long run. I've been meaning to do this for a while, and now that I've said it, I better do it! I haven't run double digits since my half in September!

Continue training on the indoor bike trainer to get more bike fit for spring cycling and add more running this month to train for 15km - ATB 2 person relay. Hoping to add in some light weight training too.

Closing off February with 20x runs / 206K, pretty close to planned ... Quite happy for the performance in the Ft Lauderdale 1/2 Marathon, finishing in 1:42:48, good enough for top 296th overall ;) ... a good indicator of my running fitness for this time of year ... Had a nice Runcation on the Run for Fun Cruise in the Caribbean ... :P

Looking forward to start building some serious mileage in March, on my road to the Spring races / events on my schedule ...

I needed more recovery after the half, so mileage was lower than planned-- 236K. Overall not bad, but I'm ending the month on a bit of a downturn-- because of my low iron, I'm going to have to cut back my mileage and postpone the marathon.

Fatigue and dregs of a cold meant I didn't have energy for any cross training. I also missed a couple of runs so only 119 k this month.
