I'm not clear on the point she's trying to make. Don't publish safety tips for runners?

Wow, that's not what I got at all.

I thought she was basically trying to say these cases are rare, don't blame the victim, and stop telling women that it's never ok to run alone.

Of course these cases are very tragic; it's important be careful but also not to overreact.

I kept waiting for her to summarize her POV at the end of the article, which never happened. In fact, so few writers summarize their point, recommendation, criticism, etc. I think that they think that their points are self-evident. Just bad writing.

You're right- it wasn't all that well-written. That's what's happened to a lot of media writing these days- it's been blog-ified.

She made the points early on but then it sort of rambled.

Side-note: I went out with one of my friends from home last night in Massachusetts and found or that her nephew was friends with the girl who was killed in Princeton. :( Not very far from where I grew up.

I think her point was that publishing safety tips for runners unfairly puts the onus of staying safe on the runners and is a form of victim blaming. That we should instead demand that harassment (and worse) stop.

Makes sense to me. I don't believe that the solution to rape is rape whistles.

I agree. I was waiting for her to actually SAY that, though.
