Larry was talking about it here.
next up:

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

I use to sail on the Pittock lake in the early 70's. It will be interesting to see how the park has changed in the past 35 years.

Local trails celebrated

A somewhat hidden treasure in the city was highlighted this weekend, with a day of its very own -- Woodstock Trails Day.

Hundreds of people gathered at Pittock Park Conservation Area on Saturday to enjoy a day of leisurely nature walks, fishing and bird watching organized by the Oxford County Trail Council.

Although this is the fourth year a day has been dedicated to the city's trail system, this year was the first for an official running event.

Runners participated in a one-mile fun run, a five-kilometre trail run and a half-marathon called "That Dam Trail Run."

More than 200 runners participated in the running events.

Run organizer Janet Briggs was happy with the turnout and said runners made many positive comments on the condition of the trails.

"This older lady who's done many, many runs just came up to me and said this is the best event she's ever been at. The trails are just beautiful," Briggs said. "I don't think there's many places that have this amount of trails."

The Woodstock trail system has 24 kilometres of trail weaving through the city and wrapping around the Thames River.

One of the people responsible for upkeep on the system, Dan Major, the city's superintendent of parks, said the trails would be nothing if it wasn't for volunteer groups.

"We can only do so much. It's the help of volunteers like the Lions and Rotary clubs who come out during the spring and fall to clean up," he said. "And people in general who pick up litter or call the office if there's a problem. That's what makes it a success."

The Oxford County Trails Council works to bring the needs of trails to the foreground.

Trails Council member Lorna Boratto said the group is always brainstorming new ideas to make the system work better, look better and get bigger.

"This appeals to so many people. People use it to just walk or run or to get out in nature. Our group pulls everyone's interests together in one voice," she said.

Several trails in the system are now wheelchair accessible and many are paved.

Boratto and Major are working together this year in hopes of keeping the trails groomed in the winter months so cross-country skiers can use them more easily.

Very cool

Thanks Ron for getting the word out.

Perhaps next year there will be a few more maniacs for Tracy to cheer for. I don't think tame Woodstock knew what hit them Saturday morning. Of course you would think they know what a cow bell sounds like.
