if all's good at sulphur springs, it'll be my second 100miler of the year. Should be my final year in the region so i'll try to make it to as many races as possible.

Actually it is "distance to be determined". If many things align this could turn out to be my first 50 K. I have to admit it is not my first priority, although I very much want to do at least the 25. Its a long ways away!

I just wanted you to respect the distance. And of course you respected the heck out of it, the rest is history.

I have other goals too, I'd love to break 3:30 in the marathon. Sounds like I want to be just like you!

As you said, Haliburton is a long drive. Not worth going up there just for a 25k. ;-)

50K! 50K! 50K!

ETA. You picked a great course and venue for your first 50! Of all the Ontario 50ks, this is the nicest.

Just found this home video account of the Haliburton 100 (specifically of Keith Iskew's race)
Quite a few Spaff sightings in it.

So I thought perhaps a checking in was in order to see where everyone is at since there is only 195 days left until the big day! I am at an unbelievable and most pathetic 2 hours of running for my long run, got a bit of a niggle in the left ITB, and it looks like my dog is more prepared for an ultra than I am. The 50 miler in May seems to be just around the corner and with a bit of advice from Chainsaw Baby's post, I should be ready to go... ready being a relative term.

You'll be fine.

I can't wait for the wet snow to get off the trails. I want to run in mud. It's good for the skin. :D

February is not the best moment to look Haliburton 100 straight in the eyes. :|
Give it time, take another look at your training in April. Hopefully March will be nicer, the days will be longer, etc, etc.

On a late afternoon in September when you turn around after 50 miles at the Haliburton 100 and you do that Normac loop before heading for Ben & Krista's trail and the far end, you will remember these dreadful miles you've logged this winter through the slush and snow and you will remember to pick up your feet to avoid tripping. Keep on trucking, NG.

I wonder if my 'trail offering' is still at the finish line behind the bush?

It's my fault for not seeing the shrine on the way back, Nature Girl. Had to start a new one.
Not quite sure what to do at Halihurtin this year. Inclined to go for a better result in the 50 mile but the night always calls. hmmm...
Felt inspired by a 20k loop of Funshawe today followed by some snowshoeing so if I was smart I would sign up right now while I am emotionally uplifted and feeling all a-ha like.

Not sure about revisiting that new shrine you started. Let's hope not. ;)

The night calls, for sure. Join the crowd. You won't be alone.
Registration will open soon, I'm sure.

I think I'll say this many times in this thread, but I CAN'T WAIT FOR HALIBURTON! :D

Ditto. My first 50K, my first distance over the half marathon. Scared+++ but after this fall, I know I can do anything I put my mind too.

Just keep in mind that after I'm done, you have a dutiful crew girl in me - for both of you!

This year will be a very special Haliburton, with lots of great people, maniacs and good vibes up in the Forest. Enjoy the training everyone!!

If anyone is looking for a great experience that weekend (or during the other overnight OUSER races like Sulphur100 and Dirty Girls 24hr), there's always need for pacers, volunteers and crew/supporters.

Night time aid station duty is the most fun you'll ever have. You actually get to see the runners wondering into the aid station, some zonked out of their skulls, some totally focused, some just trashed and in pain. There's nothing more rewarding than handing a cup of hot chocolate to these people and putting them back on the trail.

Also, if anyone is looking to do some night-running, join the race as a pacer. It's very precious experience and very rewarding. Plus, you get free entertainment watching your racer hallucinate.
