So do we not need a thread for every OUSER event?

I was waiting till after Boston to commit, but the healing is progressing well and I didn't do too much damage on the pavement, so we are in. Not racing this one per say, just time on the legs, on a fun trail, with friends. This will be Kim's first longer distance trail race too.

One of the big ones for me. Some of you crazy people seem to run 100 miles every other weekends, but in my book, 50 miles is a looong way. If I feel good on race day, I want to run this one fairly hard and possibly beat the time I did last year on that course.

No its not that tough a course. I imagine that they figure, the course is open for the 100 milers why not, and to encourage walkers as well.

I just figured out how to avoid cut-off time stress: choose races with a longer distance than the one I'm doing. lol

I was gonna start up a thread on this, glad someone else actually got around to it!
Was thinking of camping on the Fri and Sat night (think theres camping allowed close to finish line) - has anyone done this before at Sulphur - either both nights or just one? Anyone recommend/ not recommend it?

I think UltraQueenga has...

I will be camping and I contacted the RD and lots of people camp at the start/finish, however parking in that area on the Saturday is reserved for the 100 milers.

Its okay, just a little field beside the road. A fairly suburban location, not wilderness or anything.

My entry is dependant on a few things...not being selected for CF Nationals (which I may withdraw from anyways...this sounds more fun), and whether disc surgery is required.

I had a plan too... it was all sensible and gradual... something about doing a halfM in may and maybe a fullM in the fall... :P

Looks good. I'm presuming that photo is taken the afternoon after the race and that the consumption of Stella Artois is not part of the aid station etiquette!

Looking forward to this - dont want to have to wait a month for it....

You gotta camp at Sulphur! I woke up every couple of hours to ensure that Kinga & The Viking were well looked after when they got back to the start/finish area (even if they really didn't need me :( ) Rabid ended up being a last minute-late-night pacer as well.

It's also incredibly humbling to be there when the 100 milers come into the finish.

You never know what's going to happen in that tiny little field over the weekend!

Why Kinga has convinved me to hang around for the 100 mile finishers in Haliburton.

Going back again this year, looking for a better time than last year's 28:06.

Last year we planned on camping and decided last minute to stay at a nearby motel. This year we're definitely camping!! There's plenty of space also about 100 m from the start/finish area on a large grassy field.

Killerz, you can camp at the start/finish area and Ihighly recommend it. This is how you catch the 100 miler virus. Seriously, the start/finish area at ultras is always fun and the Stella Artois goes well with camping. ;) Or if you're saving your beer for Sunday and are still feeling fresh after your race, consider pacing one of the 100 milers for a loop during the night. Nothing like stumbling through the dark trails with a stranger and talking about all sorts of crazy things. :D

Sulphur Springs is a very well organized and supported race. Lots of aid stations per loop, gentle trails and bunch of awesome people running around in circles. What's not to like?

Lots of space to camp. A little noisy near the start finish area with traffic going by (hey, we live in rural Yarker, so not used to the big city). Down the trail a bit is really nice and quiet though as UQ mentioned.

He's not a maniac, but I'm adding one of my former students to this list. If he has the race I think he is capable of, he may very well shake up the predicted order in the 100 miler (He's debating the 50 or 100). This kid was a 15 and change 5 km guy 3 yrs ago who has decided Ultras are the way to go. His Sunday runs normally top 50 km. He once asked me to pick a number between 1-70 (I chose 67). He told me later that I chose his run distance for the day, and sent me the Garmin image as proof.
I'm crossing my fingers, because this young man told me he focused his running after running with me for 7 months, after seeing my passion for running. Running was never 'cool' before that. I brag about him any chance I get!! :D
