I'm thinking of doing 50k in Niagara.
Limberlost is pretty but a looped course.
Hailibution 50k sounds neat but so does....http://www.runwoodstock.com/

Thanks for all the feedback on alternate races to Sulphur and sorry to hijack the thread. Going to think about this. I'm recovering from races the last two Sundays and 8K and 10K Trail Runs yesterday and today in the sun seemed like about enough. My energy and competitive spirit should come around in a week or so and I'll weigh the adventure/heat torture trade-off on the July events.

In other news...
The Bog around the 12 km mark has been fixed. There is basically a raised gravel path that goes through the grassy area. Some people will not even recognize that section!
I can't say I'm a fan of the gravel road they put there... I wish the conservation authority had just closed the area to let it regenerate and maybe improve the drainage around those hills, rather than bring in road building machinery and trucks to fix a 50 m stretch of trail. There are plenty of other trails we could have run on. Oh well, the good thing is there will be dry feet during the race, so that's an improvement. I have a feeling there will be lots of fast times at Sulphur this year.

Good call. This should be left for Sulphur stuff with the big race this weekend. But Woodstock looks awesome enough, I have started a thread for it.

Good luck to everyone Saturday and Sunday.

Sure sounds like it is going to be a very hot day. First loop should be fine, after that it will be very slow and steady for the rest of the day until sunset.

Still not too late to do some heat training. Turn those heaters on in the car, run with an extra layer, hit the sauna, run at noon. And repeat to yourself "this is good training... this is good training... this is good training... this is good training..."

Oh my, I can't believe that it's getting so close now! It's very exciting. I still can't imagine the insanity of it, but I know that Strider will rock Sulphur Springs.

Robbie - it's amazing that you'll be Strider's pacer! 8)

Doonst - maybe next time???

DBB & Cupcake Girl - you 2 are wonderful. Thanks for your kind offer and support.

Everyone else - thanks for giving Strider all the helpful tips especially Kinga re: heat training. Definitely need that.

See you all @ Sulphur. Big thanks & hugs to all.
Mrs. Strider :)

Sulphur Springs Trail Run

Postby BJH » Tue May 22, 2012 10:29 am

Does anyone know how tough it is to get from the race start to the rail trail that runs through the conservation area? I may try to give my Dad and his bike a lift to and from Ancaster so he can go for a rail trail ride while I race (25k). He's fine riding on the road, but I don't want to send him along anywhere too busy.
The road to hell is paved. Run trails.

I think there's nothing any tougher than Jerseyville road where it starts.

I might need a wake up call!! Planning to get about 3:30 AM so I get to the race site shortly after 5 AM. I am glad we get a 6 AM start for the 50M though, even though I might be a tad tired and grouchy.

Added our names to the 100 miler pile. I hope to finish this one... :|
Weather looks awesome!! Most probably a dry weekend, so lots of dusty, sore feet and maybe some heat issues. Drink lots and stay cool!

Wishing everyone a great race, especially strider on his first 100 miler! Go git 'em!
