North Face ECS- Blue Mountain

Postby erinmcd » Thu Feb 06, 2014 12:36 pm

Not sure if I missed hearing about this before, but I just saw the North Face Endurance Challenge Series is expanding to Ontario- Blue Mountain on the weekend of July 12-13.

This one might make it onto my race calendar........

Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

I am torn. I have done a Northface ultra in WI and it was good value and well run. I would recommend a race in the series based on that.

On the other hand, I am not thrilled that this series is going head to head with an Ontario Ultra Series established race "Limberlost Challenge" that is the same day.

In Ontario, there are 14 OUS events (with all but 1 being an Ultra) + a few others (Vulture Bait, That Damn Hill, Run4rkids) so I can understand that it might be hard to find a "free'" weekend.

I am leaning to support the OUS series since my drive would be about the same to either race.

Nice to see more options, but I agree with cbaker...TLC would be my first choice since I'd need to drive far for both. If blue mtn was in my backyard, I'd have a diff answer.

Mike! Good to hear from you!

It would have been more professional if North Face had contacted Neil or the series to try and avoid the conflict. Neil's race date is difficult to move, but there are ample weekends in July/August with no conflicts.

Pierre, is that you buddy? Sorry I have been out of touch. Lianne said you were running. Last time I saw you was Niagara. Ouch for both of us there.

Hoping to be doing distance this summer.....

Hi Mike. It is Pierre. I am also hoping to enter a few of the longer runs this year, after knee surgery in 2012. Nothing over 1,000 KM...

So fickled .. want to do Limerlost but I really want to do the North Face Race primarily because of the Venue, Blue.

I am waiting for the course layout. Apparently its going to be a 40K loop. Checked registration and there is already a handful registered for the 50 miler and they are all over place , names not recognized.

Anyone else considering this one. :?

Hey Ron do you know for sure yet if its a double 40k loop? not too worried about the actual course can assume its lots of up and down and hot in july.

I was asking for details and North Face emailed this response....

Ron,

I've been told now that the 50 mile course will essentially be two almost marathon length loops. We hope that you will register with us this year!

I would encourage everyone to choose The Limberlost Challenge this year. We will put on a great event as usual.

Limberlost is an awesome race and truly highlights the best of Muskoka Trail Running! I highly recommend this race for the great tails and the volunteers that are second to none! I did 50 K there in in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 and will definitely be adding git to a future race calendar. I am an avid Skier and Blue is my " home mountain". I have always wanted to Run at Blue so when this race was announced I I added it to my race calendar. There are so many races all over the place all the time I see OUSer followers doing a variety of events so I don't believe it will have a huge impact on the numbers at Limberlost.

Just a few days to a great race weekend - here in Huntsville and also in Collingwood. Our numbers are down about 100 this year from where we expected them to be. That is OK. We will not compromise the quality of The Limberlost Challenge for any reason. Everyone gets to make their choice as to which races to choose. It is hard to say no to a new race. We will be back next year. I hope that we will see you at Limberlost in July 2015. Cheers. rd

I have a camp pickup and that's the only reason I'm not going to Limberlost...hopefully can get there next year...dying to try this one. Hope it's a great weekend.
