This is a new event being organized by Jeff Rowthorn and Heather Borsellino and looks like a fun one. Great time of the year, in early October. Come out for the inaugural evemt October 5, in Hamilton.

Sucks that it's 'loops' though.

Sure a better course design could have been sought or is this just laziness on the part of organizers these days? 10 loops for the 50k, they might as well just have it on a school track

Loops aren't everyone's cup of tea but I wouldn't chalk it up to "laziness on the part of organizers" if it means that they can do a better job marking the course, managing the aid stations, and coordinating a finite pool of volunteers. Whenever I've raced looped trail races, I've appreciated the ability to pick up or drop off an item at my drop bag, as well as the more frequent interactions with other runners. Looped courses are also preferred by speedier folks who are looking to establish qualifying times for other races.

I don't mind loops myself. I'll be doing a 24 h our in NJ in May - 1 mile loops :)

I'm looking forward to Sticks n' Stones as it's apparently a fast course. Loops can be fun as you see people a lot, doesn't get lonely, you get to be near your stuff regularly. Lots of advantages.

I had always avoided any loop race because of my short attention span and ADD, I thought it would drive me crazy. For a 50 K race in Calgary, had to do an 8 K "loop" and that was okay. So entered the Kelowna marathon. Two loops of 21 K each. The second loop was painful as I was overwhelmed with a sense of been there and done that. All a matter of personal preference and what is right for you.

^ It's the deja vu' that makes it painful for me and just throws me right off. I maintain my initial stance that laziness on the part of the organizers plays into it

Never done a loop race or a 50K (would like to one day!) but sitting here on my couch, I'm envisioning one of my standard 5K trail routes and I have to say, that thinking of doing that loop 10 times seems allot less daunting than a single 50K loop. No idea why. It sounds ridiculous I know, LOL.

Knowing both of the race directors personally, I know that this is not the case.... Loop courses very popular in ultras for a variety of reasons.

Don't think I'll do Ottawa again, but I may go back to Kingston and run loops there for 6 hours :)

Was excited about the new race idea... but 5k is a tad to short for me. Have done horror hills 2.5k loop and Dirty girls 8ish k loop and realise that perhaps loops are not for me. You never know though..

It's NOT for most people...that feeling of deja vu just sucks the energy out of you.
