Supination

Postby Stephan » Fri Aug 26, 2005 7:07 pm

I just found out tonight that I am a supinator!!! Thus is the source of all the pain I've been having recently in one of my legs. I need new shoes as my mizunos are toast I presume. I was recommended a pair of cushioning shoes and to go see a specialist for specially designed orthotics. Anyone else have this dilemma???? Any shoe suggestion??????
Any insight???? Any standard insoles out there I can get??

Hi Stephan,

Here's a few questions for you:

How long have you had the Mizunos (and which ones are they)? Where did you buy them? Who told you that you supinate?

Because.....

If you bought them from a reputable running store (say less than 60 days ago) and the staff assessed your feet....and it is a physio or doctor telling you that these shoes are no good for you, take the shoes back and ask for an exchange. It's even better if you can get the doctor or physio to write you out a "prescription" for the correct type of shoes.

If it was a reputable running store that cares about customer service, they should accommodate you. You may have to speak to the manager of the store, but it is definitely worth a try if you haven't had the shoes very long.

As far as insoles go you will have to experiment, you need lots of cushioning in your shoes as your foot is not shock absorbing for your body like it should.

Good Luck!

Colleen

For what its worth, I've had good luck with Asics and Adidas for a similar concern with supination....

I have Mizuno wave creator 5 shoes. I bought them at the Running Room Halifax. The guy checked my running style, and gave me great customer service. The shoes have abut 500-600 km on them and are about 45-60 days old. I only started getting the pains in the last 2 weeks, I was told I was supinating tonight from a salesmen at a sport store (cleve's) in halifax after he looked at the shoes I was wearing. All my shoes, dress, work, casual are all worn out on the exterior of the shoes and I develop blisters on the outside of my feet. The shoes I had have been great but I do think there just broke down and are just worn down. I will go to the running room tomorrow to get another evaluation done and buy another pair of shoes.

I have the Asics gel nimbus and Asic gel cumulus for my supination. Love the Nimbus but they are on the expensive side, cumulus are cheaper but I find they aren't very flexible. Good luck 8)

I'm also a slight supinator. I got orthotics, and I wear cushioning shoes (Saucony grid trigon). They're middle of the road in terms of cost, but they hardly EVER go on sale!
My foot doc said that because everything in the body is closely connected, my supination could have been caused by tight calves, which are caused by my tight hamstrings/IT band/hips. Do you stretch a lot?
My orthotics have been my saving grace. Luckily they're covered by my benefits plan, but otherwise I know they're pretty expensive.

I am a super supinator! I am glad to see the subject as I am just about to purchase the "only" shoe I found out there for supination. THE one and only Asics Gel cumulus...yes expensive but cheaper than a plane!

Actually after some frustrating shopping in Laval and Edmonton, I finaly found them in R&R catalogue....fortunitely I will be able to buy online because I know what size I need!

Don't ever ask someone at a sport stores who says they know about running shoes other than R&R or similar store if they have shoes for supinator, they will look :?: as if you were from an other planet...

I find that supinator don't have much of a choice..as for neutral and pronators they have a whole arrays to choose from...not fair...bouhou!...

Anyhow, soon very soon I will order my shoes!
