Yes she has, she's scary fast

Edit: I'm not sure about the half...I know the full she's sub 3:30

The PB thread shows that she ran a 1:37:39 this year. No women are listed under 90 minutes, 5 under 100 minutes.

Ah, I must have been thinking of the marathon PB. I still think she could give it a good go (if she is/stays uninjured).

Uh... well, hi there. :shifty: Geez, come back from lunch and I find I'm being discussed.... oy!

Yes, my full was sub-3:30. No, I definitely have not gone under 90. I'm a full 7+ minutes away from that, with the time Doonst quoted. McMillan says I could do a 1:38-something based on my full, so I don't see myself getting to sub 90.

Note to myself as I read this in the months to come...A few weeks ago, after much running-soul searching, I made a big promise to myself not to place a time value on my races. This challenge is nothing more than a fun experiment. Where and how it ends should be fun too!!!

On another note, along with Bruyere, I can think of a few other ladies who could rise to this challenge: Quickchick, JoggerBarbie, and Kristen. I'm sure there are lots others I just don't know. What do you think girls?
We train more joyfully and productively when we focus on the now, rather than on our future race day performance. It's a long road from here to there with many miles to go. We need to run each one. Accept where you are today and simply be thankful for the work you've accomplished. KA

5km race tomorrow. My 10km time from Fall colours predicts 21 min flat. Let's see if I can break that with better pacing than my last 5km attempt.

Inching ever closer. Maybe I should pull out the new shoes!

Did you scare away the ladies? I hope not, we need you ladies to keep the testosterone in check. Seriously, it would be great to get more people working towards the numbers.

You know, I've never raced a 5k in 4 years. I wouldn't even know how hard to push, going to be a new experience for me. Of the 3 distances, which do you think is the hardest? I'm thinking the 10k sub 40 seems to me to be the most difficult...

I'd love to join in but my fitness isn't there yet for those numbers. My targets will be more like 22/45/105. 8)

That's close enough!

Really we just want to improve and get as close to those number as possible. We can post our workouts and paces here to compare and motivate each other.

I have speedwork tomorrow. 8x4min hard on 1:30 easy recovery. I plan to hold close to 4:00/km but I'm worried since the rest is so short and there are 2 more intervals than I'm used to. I might be better to aim for 4:15 or 4:20.

But it's not the title of the thread. :)

I'll post my workouts here if I'm allowed, though.

I've been thinking of this too - but it's also slightly too lofty for me - in the spirit I'll aim for sub 21/45/100 - but I'm just getting back into regular running so this might change. Ironboy - where are you getting your speed workouts from?

I think anyone currently in the low 20s for a 5km, mid 40s for a 10km and high 1:30s for a half would benefit and be beneficial to the group.

At least we should all be able to relate, and push each other, and maybe even trash talk a little.

Do you think the ladies could come up with 5k/10k/21k challenge, I'll add it to the title of the thread. All are welcome.

I don't see it as a male/female thing. There are several girls who'd be up for the 20/40/90 challenge but not me, yet.

I used to beat you guys! And speedy dgrant too. I'm pretty sure there are no 90 minute halfs or 40 minute 10 K's in my future. And yes I'm a dude! I'm still chipping away at my PBs, but by seconds not minutes. Boston just gave me 10 extra minutes to run a marathon! Have fun though.

Here's a start. It will allow for multiple challenges with different targets. Add yourselves and take it away.

Ironboy

I was going to post this same question, but you beat me to it.

For me, the most difficult to imagine is the 10k. 5k hurts but it's over soon enough, the 10k is just as fast, hurts just as much, but is twice the distance. For some reason I don't imagine the half as hard, more like cruising at just a tad slower than threshold pace, whereas the other two are significantly faster than threshold pace....all in my mind at this point, of course

Postby Jwolf » Mon Nov 08, 2010 7:25 pm

Well, if comparison is 5k vs 10k at the same pace, then it makes sense that the 10k would be harder.

But you would also have to compare things like the courses and your strengths on those courses. My current 5k and 10k PBs are the same pace and they were two weeks apart. But the 5k was on a much tougher course, starting with an incline in the first K. The 10k starts on a downhill, and I figure the course helped me by about 30 seconds. I also probably gained some fitness by doing the 5k first.

For me the equivalent half time is the hardest, so I've set my target a bit softer than the equivalent time.

I think the actual goal times are arbitrary, but our training should be fairly similar.

Speed Challenges

Ironboy - current PBs: 20:33/43:38/97:38 - Constant mileage (40-50km/week) increasing intensity of speed work.

My new 5km time predicts a 42:41 so that's my goal now.

Although my half time hasn't been tested in over 2 years, I'm focusing on 5km and 10km at least until the end of the summer.

I'd like to try a 5k prior to the end of the year, maybe a Santa or resolution run. Marathon training starting in the new year and a planned 10k in February. The rest I think will come after a May marathon. If I don't do ATB, I will likely find a half to do in the early spring.
