Weird back/side/core injury....

Postby phorunner » Mon Dec 17, 2012 6:23 pm

So, I was about 2k into my long run yesterday and all of a sudden with 3 steps everything locked up.

Literally...
ONE - mid back started to tighten
TWO - Sides and core tightened
THREE - Upper back tightened and everything in general got tight.

I came to a pretty violent stop, and could barely breathe. I couldn't move, couldn't bend. I just had to stand there for a minute and had to walk back, very slowly. I couldn't twist my body or head or lift anything for the rest of the day.

I slept with a heat pack, and have been stretching it as much as I can all day, but it's still stiff in some areas.

Anyone know what it is and how to treat it?

Never heard of it. Almost sounds like an entire upper-body cramp. Weird.

Sounds like muscle spasms. Can you get to an RMT, chiro or PT for some treatment?

Sounds like Batman, but if no other special powers are evident, I'd go with Lesley's idea. For short-term self-medication, try Robax Platinum (ibuprofen plus a muscle relaxant).

+1
Robax always works better with wine. No joke.
