They do have an "Individual" Time Trial.... Good thing Contador won that.
As long as he splits up the winning purse with the team, give him a pass on riding like an "idiot".

Cycling is a team sport. As great as AC is, he isn't playing for the team.
That's it in a nutshell, it is and it isn't. We do say that "Lance Armstrong won the TDF 7 years in a row." In hockey its the Boston Bruins, not Bobby Orr or Derek Sanderson.

About to climb Mt. Ventoux Awesome mountain, this should be a fantastic finish.
Contador could still crack, right? Maybe something he ate?
Edit: and commercial free, thanks to Chrysler! I have a sudden urge to buy a 300.

Champions do what it takes to win. He has nothing to learn.
Worship Armstrong all you want... he ain't making the podium in Paris. I'm guess he'll lose about 2-3mins on Ventoux to the Schlecks.
Contador's new team will have a DS and team-mates that support him, unlike this year.
Lance will come back next year and have more excuses. He must hate the taste of his own medicine.Armstrong vs Andy Schleck - the impact of the hill
Of interest on this climb is that the slowest time of all the riders was that of Armstrong, in 9:11. That is a full 46 seconds slower than Contador, and is where Armstrong really began to battle in his efforts to claw back Andy Schleck. Coming into the stage, Armstrong was looking for 1:29 to catch Andy.
Up to the bottom of the climb (25km) it was going well. In fact, before the climb (at the 25km mark), he was 33 seconds ahead of Andy Schleck on the stage. By the finish of the stage, that lead had been cut to 15 seconds, thanks largely to the 28 seconds Schleck was able to claw back on the short climb. Shleck ended up 1:14 ahead of Armstrong for second place overall, but it was looking much more tenuous until the climb gave the younger Shleck some time back.
Looks like he'll make the podium

Yeah... that's too bad. But guess who pulled him up the hill when the Schlecks attacked... Contador.
Absolutely, agree, that Andy Schleck, pulled his sorry@$$ Brother up the Alps ... So sad for Kloden, being dropped again ...

Contador learns slow, but at least he's learning.
That stage was actually pretty disappointing... Lance looked fine, but he didn't have much to stress about with Wiggins DOA and F.Schleck not bringing any fight. Andy looked more interested in helping his brother than putting in any kind of attack on Contador (gap was too big anyway). After all the build-up, it kind of fizzled.

Anyone else catch the profile of Contador during tonight's stage ? So many similarities to Lance Armstrong ... both surviving a bout with a life threatening issues, Lance with cancer and Contador with his brain .... then go off to be one of the top Tour de France Riders/Champions ...
And, yes, Contador, also admitted that Lance is (err, was) his Idol ...

It gets very confusing as to what one is supposed to do.
Nah .. that was a sarcastic post about Andy Schlek ... with an ironic twist on how to play with the Team's interest ....
Totally impressed with Andy Schlek today ... not sure if he could have won and/or dropped Lance and Contador, if he had attacked, rather sustained an attack, rather than holding back, in trying to bring his Brother, Frank, up that last hill ...
He will be one of my Top Favorites in the future ....

Make it a full - start at the bottom, finish at the bottom. I'd finally get that negative split I've been shooting for.

I was just listening to Pardon The Interruption on TSN and they said that Armstrong, instead of celebrating the end of the Tour with his Astana teammates, went and celebrated with members of his next year's Radio Shack team. Wilbon (sp?) said if a basketball player did this he would be ripped as not being a team player.

I don't know man... even the normally Lance-adoring US media is raking him over the coals for his egregious sportsmanship in this race. You don't announce you're forming a new team on the eve of your teammate winning the Tour.

It was a few days prior, and announcements during the Tour are not uncommon. It's not like Contador is sticking around at Astana either... that's Vino's team, it was imploding before the Tour even started.

I have alot of respect for Lance's work ethic. I'm sure he's demanding as hell as a team mate. As far his personality who knows. Maybe he's an a!@, maybe he's a good guy. But, he bit his tongue or said VERY little when he could've ripped Contador a new one for some of his moves. Everyone except Lance haters are agreeing with that, including commentators, and other riders on Astana and other teams.
Contador saying what he said after the fact is like the kid that takes his ball and runs home.
Lance worked for Contador pretty much the whole tour, regardless of how you look at it. And that's Contador's comment? Brutal.
Not sure what poor sportsmanship they are talking about.
As far as the guy's comment about the basketball team. I'll "bite my tongue" on that one....

A couple of comments from Lance. I'd love to know what was said in March that he's talking about.
"Seeing these comments from AC. If I were him I'd drop this drivel and start thanking his team. w/o them, he doesn't win."
"hey pistolero, there is no "i" in "team". what did i say in March? Lots to learn. Restated."

I'm curious how you guys think the whole scenario should have played out.
How would Astana have decided who was going to win if Lance was incapable of showing any superiority and AC wasn't allowed to.
Wouldn't that have pretty much handed the win to someone else?
Maybe Hincapie should have been "placed" in the yellow for a day but now it seems everyone wants the whole race "won" the same way.

But he was allowed to go... and when he did, he flew. It's just not always the smartest thing to do, and it's not always what's in the best interests of the team he's a part of (for the next few months, anyway).
