If this is true, I will most definitely be coming out of my self imposed WTC retirement and do this race. It is just an awesome venue.

Guess I should start swim training again.

Just looked at the bike profile. There's a hill with a 12% grade over about 5K. And you have to do it twice. I think I'm out. :?

Actually it is not near as bad as the picture. If you take the start of that hill to the top (about 4km) the rise in elevation is only about 90 meters. Over 4km this gives an average grade percentage of 2.25%. The 12% will hurt but that section may be less than 500 meters.

Mooseman has a hill (twice) that is about 5.42 km in length and it has an average grade of 4.5% (with a short 18% section). A total bugger of a hill but manageable with the correct gearing.

Clearly, you have not seen me riding hills! ;) Steep hills are the reason why I won't do Muskoka again.

So which would be harder, in terms of hills on the bike Lake Placid or Mont Tremblant?

I'd spectate for sure, but my first IM will be pancake flat. I'm like La, I hate hills. :)

after doing a flat ironman, I'll stick to ones that have a bit of elevation change. the distance is the distance, but being able to coast down a hill is worth the pain of climbing sometimes!

I agree. I don't want pancake flat, but steep climbs (e.g., grades >7%), no matter how short, are just too tough for me.

I thought a little bit about this and I am just fed up with the Ironman brand even if the race is nearby. I don't want to register 14 months in advance for a race and I don't want to pay 675$ plus active.com fees to register to an overcrowded race.

If I was to choose a race today, I would go back to Beach2Battleship which is pancake flat and the swim is with the tide. It was windy and cold but I enjoyed it. Actually, I an even starting to think to take October off to go to North Carolina for a mini camp followed by the race.

I agree with Eric. I am happy there is another Ironman in Canada but it is just too expensive and too much hype. I am seriously considering Ottawa Somersault Ironman. I am in new age group in 2012. Big Five 0

I didn't realize you did B2B Eric!

LOVED that course... it was awesome, the water was amazing (I was one of the few who didn't wear hoods, gloves and neoprene socks in the water, they thought I was crazy for wearing a sleeveless suit!).. And honestly, when do you get to ride your bike on a freeway! With traffic that is being held back, but is cheering you on! \m/

In all honesty, one of the best events I have ever taken part in, and I did it the second year it was run. It really is catching on well.

Hoping to go back in 2012 or 2013. Distance to be determined. ^#(^

I'd like to do B2B someday just because it's cool.

Tremblant is still cheap though... yeah the entry fee sounds high, but the all-in price isn't. A few hours drive and bargain condos/cottages/etc in the summer (Tremblant's off-season - maybe it'll be higher with IM though!). And of course there'll be the requisite pop-in to Montreal, the best hanging-out-in-the-summer-on-patios-city in Canada! :) Can't wait. Or maybe I can, I haven't decided yet.

Just saw on FB that the IM NYC (which they're calling the US championship) is sold out already - and they have community fund spots left.

not sure about Mont-Tremblant
