Debra Supeene 10k - Photos added
Today was my first ever 10k race.
I started the day at 5:30, ate a bagel with peanut butter and 2 cups of black coffee. I had not had any caffeine in 2 days so that I might get an extra boost from it today. I was a little hyper, so I guess it worked. I also had a latté on the way to the race.
Picked up my number at 7:15 and waited around talking to Marilyn and Dwayne and a woman from my running clinic Erin. I said hello to a few other people I knew.
Did my warmup at 7:40. 10 minutes easy then some sprints. I felt pretty good!
We lined up and the horn went off. Running in the park was nice, as there was a lot of tree cover and it wasn't too hot. A lap and a half then we were on the road - toasty warm! There was a water station just before 5k and I pulled over for a couple of sips. I hit the 5k mark at 28:46 and realized that I might actually make it in an hour!!
On Victoria Crescent, there was a nice downhill... and I remembered that what goes down must come up and it was difficult! The scenery was beautiful though - very nice houses in there!
Back onto River Road where things are toasty. Finally I was back at the entrance of the park and I knew it was almost over. I looked at my watch and realized that an hour was still within my reach. I pushed it a bit too hard and had to take a quick walk break but at the last 300 meters I really kicked it for a 58:41 finish.
It's not necessarily a fast time, but I didn't think I could go under an hour so I'm very proud of myself. Dwayne took some photos but Mr. Photographer is old-school and so I'll have to post them after they're developed.

Ok, to answer all the questions - Cheryl, there was no cursing but a lot of mind games. I forgot to curse. I did, however, try to invoke the "Power of Mike Booth" at one point.
Dessert - I had a bite of Dwayne's peanut butter cup Blizzard. I HAVE to drop some weight. It's not healthy, not flattering, and it slows me down.
Kizaq, I do not think in kilometres but I do know that my near 10k runs lately have been over an hour and they were difficult - so I was sure that I would be at least an hour, if not a few minutes slower.
Thanks everyone!!
Photos still to come - I must choose which ones to scan.
