I can't believe it! Another PB!

Postby trixiee » Sun Jul 27, 2008 8:30 am

I did the Bluewater Du yesterday - 2.8/40K/10K. And for the 4th year in a row, I PB'd it! The stats for those who care (Official stats not posted yet - will edit the 2008 numbers as they become available. For now, these are my Garmin splits):

40-49 Age group
2005 5/5
Run 1 Bike Run 2 Total Time
12:40 1:29:38 1:02:41 2:45:01

2006 15/19 (no Tri - everyone did Du)
11:16 1:29:21 1:03:32 2:44:10

2007 14/22 (no Tri - everyone did Du)
13:14 1:27:29 1:00:50 2:41:35

2008 4/6
14:56 1:19:57 1:01:04 2:35:58

I have to thank La and BJH, who both encouraged me to get out on the bike (train your weekness)... I made remarkable progress here, and I know I can get even better. I love my new bike!

The first 2 women in my age group came in top first and second female overall - this is a tough age group division!

My second run sucked. I could not hold a steady pace. I kept going too fast, then would just stop running. The out portion had the wind on our backs, and it was hot, hot, hot! Thankfully, there were a number of neighbours with their sprinklers out, and would ask each runner if they wanted to be sprinkled. That was great! I would say I ran 3 minutes, walked 30 secs until the final 2K, when I passed a fellow age grouper. I was afraid she would see my age on the back of her leg, and come after me. (She didn't, but I dared not look back!) I also have something wonky happening to the bottom of my foot. My priformis and hamstrings were very, very tight. Need to get that fixed before Aug. 10!

So, clearly, I still need to work on the run portions... especially the second run off the bike. I don't have that rubbery-leg feeling at all off the bike, but I was pushing some sub 5 min K's, then blowing up. Need to slow down to a reasonable pace (for me)...

However, getting a PB feels very good! :)

great job Pat!

30 km/hr is an awesome milestone to get!

the 3 min run/30 sec walk is similar to what I use - in olympic tri's, I will often do 5 min run/30 sec walk - it seems to work well for me....

Way to go, Trix!! :D That's great improvement on the bike! The stronger you feel after your ride, the "easier" it will be to run.

Today (in training), I only did a 24K bike ride followed by a 6K run and I had a tough time slowing down, just like you described. I was running about 5:30/km and just couldn't slow down. Try to focus on running a consistent, comfortable pace - which will likely be faster than you think it is at the time. What feels at the time like LSD pace (in terms of leg speed), will actually be quite a bit faster.
