Sir C's attempt @ 5Peaks 5km at St.Bruno with pics!!!
An omen!
The highway heading east across the island of Montreal was closed this morning while I was trying to get out of town... uh oh... Lots of slow traffic later, I finally picked up the opened portion of the highway & made good time to St.Bruno.
Pulled into the parking lot & started to gather my gear together & who do I see? My favorite running store/family show up, Pegasus. Chatted with Renato & Christine for a bit before heading up to registration. NOTE for QuickChick, Pegasus can order those Nike shoes you tried on at Mt.Royal. Got the kit & backdown to the car to decide & get the race gear on Yup... still can't make up my mind till the last second. I also had the great pleasure of running into Weak Willed, Hermes, Sanders & Ken (all the way from Ottawa... hope you are reading this!) who yelled out "Cyclocross!" to me. Aside from meeting friends & RM folks, this was just icing on the cake!
Soon enough, the race began. This will be the 4th time I am at St.Bruno for a race, the other 3 times with another organization but just about the same trail network. Up the hill, down the hill, up some more, & still up... anyways, you get the picture. I started suffering when I hit the first long gradual ascent... hooray for me.... Quite a bit of walking today as I was gassed quite a few times. By the time I hit the 4th km mark, my "recovered" ankle was getting sore...again... I had the good fortune to link up with 2 ladies who I used as pacers otherwise I think I would have been much slower. I was quite happy when it was all over & rather relived that I did not register for the Enduro event (which I heard that some poor BOP soul got hurt .... hope he/she is ok...)
Drum Roll Please!!! The moment we have all been waiting for!

Nice job - bet you wish you had had your bike with you. Actually sounds like you raced it and had fun - be careful, they are addictive.

Woo hoo, it really was your day, great defender. Well done!
I tried to encroach on your territory and have discovered the pleasures of the back of the pack.
Thanks for the great pix! (Aside - Nice camera! an SLR right? It's like a machine-gun... the way it can take so many pix in such quick succession. Awesome.)
We'll have to do this again next year!. Trail racing really has addictive potential!
