Lisa runs the Scotia Half
Lisa runs the Scotia Half
I don't run an awful lot of races, and have only posted one brief race report here, but I was encouraged to do so today, so here it is.
Wow, I was really looking forward to this race, even though it is not my 'A' race. I really wanted to test my fitness in race conditions.
I met a friend and we took the bus together. It was really nice to have the company, and I didn't think it fair to drag DH out of bed at 5:30. I was up at 4:30 to down some oatmeal and a cup of coffee. This sat in my stomach very well.
Nathan Philips was PACKED at 6:30 already! We checked our bags, and made one last bathroom stop (which took forever!) Not enough Port-o-lets!. Then we headed to our coral (I was green, my friend was purple and running in a slower coral, as she is slightly injured.
My strategy was to not go out TOO hard, but settle into somthing comfortable, and see where it took me. First K was done in 5:50 even with all of the jostling. Cool! Feels good. Let's keep it at that and see.
Everything just sailed from there. I reached 10K at 58 minutes (garmin time, not gun time). Still feeling great! There wasn't really a point where I slowed down, and I believe I have a big negative split, as my finish was:
(DRUMROLL PLEASE)
1:58:39 Chip
2:05:52 Gun
Yes you read that right. I did a sub 2:00 half.
I had no confidence I could do this, and I shocked myself, but those last 2K I absolutely emptied my tank.
I don't have many physical advantages in this sport. I'm 45, 4'8" and 88lbs, so this is an absolutely HUGE accomplishment for me.
Nicest part - There was DH and the pooch at the end. They came down after all.
I don't want to sound boastful, because I know many finished in front of me, but I am very proud of myself and my training. All that work paid off by taking 24 minutes of my PB.
Overall a really great event!
Now about that marathon in 3 weeks.......
Have a great day!

Things are looking great for you for your full! Sub-2?! Super! You aren't boasting at all-you're sharing your experience and that's what this place is all about.
Congrats, Lisa!
Congrats, Lisa!

We're going to try this new thing called jogging. Or maybe it's yogging-with a silent "j". Apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.

Why practice running slow? It comes naturally!

Get out of my head, Ang! (Sorry, Ang and I tend to have a habit of typing the same things at the same time when we're chatting, and she just did it again! Those are the exact words I was going to write.)
You should indeed be very proud, and I'm sure this is just the conifidence boost you need for that next little run thing you have planned in 3 weeks.

YEAH!! CONGRATULATIONS!!

Love It.
It's just so darn inspiring to read race reports where athletes put it all out there and come away so happy...and with an awesome PB to boot.
I'm sitting here...just thinking that you probably have one big smile on your face...as you should.
Well done Lisa
