Rum Runners 2008 - Lucky Leg 7

Postby q » Sun Sep 28, 2008 11:16 am

Somehow in the last two years I believe have not driven this entire leg. Or the 2 BIG hills stole all my attention, making me forget about the rest of the leg.

My knee has been pretty crappy for August and September, but, it was just starting to feel OK after only running twice since the full in Quebec City.

Then, just before my leg I heard "2 minutes until the start of Leg 7, the hilly one..." over the bullhorn. Then Stephan says "Hey everyone on the team is really running about the same pace this year, we're doing pretty good."

UGH..... I got a huge feeling of dread... Like I was going to let down the team.

Off we go, and all of a sudden there is a hill right away, "Um, where did this hill come from?", and then the first big hill, followed quickly by the second. "Phew ok, that foolishness is over with" I thought.

Uh, no...

2 more moderate hills, and then a small one near then end. before the final 2K decline into town and the finish line.

For the last mile, lunch wanted to come up, my sore knee felt like warm jelly, I was soaked from the heavy air, and a lady passed with a "Good work". I stuck on her like glue. If she stopped for a hot dog, I was putting the mustard on it.

And then I was done and glad to be done. 6 friggin' hills!!!! Ugh!!

It was another great day and fun time for myself, running with good friends is always a good time.

Thanks to all the team members, and a special thanks for Dennis, for putting in the team year after year.
Bettina Peterson: "Where're you headed?"
Chuck Noland: "Well, I was just about to figure that out."

You ran nice and strong Brendan, you were consistant throughout and finished well. You did us proud!!!!!

It was a blast to hang with the good one again this year.

Next year we can hunt for "Cheetah Girl!!"

Nice job, Q! And you even broke your tradition of Stacy's? Or did you get it after?

I heard a few ladies commenting on the hills after that leg as well. Apparently, you weren't the only one who thought the hills had multiplied!

Oh, I hate that, when you think you're done, and find more hills! I remember that from CTRR. Argh!

Way to go, mustard guy! LOL

I remember that section in 2001. Yup, 6 sizable, freakin' hills in less than 10K. It does have that fast finish and I think I did do the technicolour yawn (past the finish line!). Great run, Brendan. Way to beat those hills into submission!!

Cheetah Girl? I think I heard Colonel Mustard did the deed in the kitchen with an old beer bottle.....

Sounds like... fun? How did you get stuck with the "6 hill leg"? Way to go though- it sounds like you represented. Not that I'm surprised- you're a super strong runner. Good job!

Hills schmills! It's good Cabot Trail training. :-D

As always, it's great to spend time with you. No worries about letting the team down; I don't think that's possible at RRR, unless you decide to DNS for no good reason. I'm just disappointed that we didn't get ice cream this year. :-(

Good work, Q!

Yeah Brendan, you should have chugged a couple of beers before your run!

Hey, there's no letting the team down unless you don't have fun during the day.

Great run and a great pace for such a hilly leg!
