Orillia Snowflake race #4

Postby flexrun » Sun Jan 11, 2009 10:17 pm

I ran the 4th and final race of the series today. My goal was to keep my 2nd place overall for the series. Jeff (the guy pushing the stroller) was about a minute and a half behind me.

The highlight of my race was to meet DougG one of the original maniacs - great guy! It was a pleasure to meet you Doug!

The guy with the stroller won the race overall today. I didn't stand a chance against him. He was smoking the course! He finished in the low 18min mark which is pretty amazing in those conditions.

I passed one of the other runners at about the 3.5km mark and he ended up passing me again at about 4.5 and beat me by about 4-5 seconds. One of the other runners joked with me after the race and asked "how did that feel" and I said "not very good" . She said its good to be humbled once and a while and I agreed with her.

The oldest guy in the race was Barry who used to run the race at one time and is 79 years old. He ran the 5 k in 34:13 - what an inspiration he is! He said he is looking forward to next year when he turns 80.
I came in 5th overall for this race with a time of 19:01. I wanted to finish under 19minutes but couldn't pull it off. I had a bit of a coughing fit near the finish. I finished in 2nd place total for all 4 races which I was happy with.

Now I can concentrate on my training for the chilly half then Boston.

Pretty quick, especially in those conditions... now it's time to stretch this speed out over some longer distances.

Nice job with the series. Sorry you couldn't beat stroller-man, but at least you beat the kid from your track club overall

Looks like it was cold out there.

My training log

Why practice running slow? It comes naturally!

"There are two types of injuries that we older runners get: those that we can run with and those that we can't. And if you're over 30 and don't have one or the other, you aren't training hard enough." - Younger Legs blog

I am guessing that she is about 1 and a half maybe. We were joking with Jeff saying we hope your kid gains 40 lbs so that it slows you down  .
