First Race for 2009
First Race for 2009
Just checking in to let you know how I made out in the first race of the season for moi. It was our Puma 5KM, I placed 3rd in my age class. This is not what has me excited thou. I'm more excited about not stopping to walk, nor stop for a water break. This is the furthest that I have run without a water break. Darn it not having salvia glands. My 1KM split was 5:52. With a mile to go, my time was 20:59. When I finished my watch said 30:50, my official time was 30:52. Cie la vie....
The footing for the most part was pretty good, there were a few spots with black ice, and some snow. There was a bit of wind. For the first part I was struggling with trying to stay focused. Then I found that my dentures were starting to bounce up and down. Took them out, put them in the running belt pocket, and kept on givin er.... I actually passes a man in the parking lots. Yay. There is a man who has been trying to stay with me, or beat me. Today he was ahead of me for awhile, I passed him, but he passed me back. Well I ended up beating him by 3 seconds, the challenge is on. This was also my first run outside, as I get chilled so easy, due to weight loss, and low hemoglobin.... I wore three layers on the top. I wore a toque, with a Nike Dryfit hoodie on my head. I kept wiping my nose on my mitts, there were tears on my face at spots because of the wind. Therefore with all these conditions, I'm pleased to say that I am proud of myself today for my performace. Saw Kathy, Dwayne, and Jeff out there today. Dwayne was taking pictures, but found the time to cheer me on as well. Merci. I'm scared to think if he took a picture what it must look like, as I was running toothless, and had junk coming out of my mouth.

Hopefully they will, but this is Winterpeg, so who knows how angry Mother Nature is, and how much more white stuff she has in store for us. Cripes I remember running a big 10K in May, while it was snowing. Lets hope this year won't be like that. Thanks for the encourgement.
