(mostly copied from my log)...
Best part of the day - seeing Lisa and Brendan (although I totally dissed Brendan when I didn't recognize him - how embarrassing...), pre and post race hanging with some awesome friends, and NO RAIN!!
Now the race...
Well, not so happy with the result.
1:04:40. meh
I ran too hard for it to be a "have run" race and not hard enough to have a "I feel good about that result" race. So meh.
Started out waaaaaaaay too fast, following runners who I know are about my pace (but don't have any race experience and so started too fast). I should have held back and run my own race but fear/ego got in the way. Then I ran waaaaay too fast on the downhill and ended up with shin splints from about 2-4k. Felt good from 4-6km. At 6km tried picking up the pace with some success but the ginornmous hills from 8-9k pretty much shredded me.
Anywho. Another race in the books for this season. That's 3 so far. Before May of this year I'd only run a total of 5 races total, so I'm doing well on that end anyway!
The race organization was excellent - period - but considering this was the first time they've had this race, it was especially impressive. They were originally expecting about 70 runners and ended up with 180. They had 90 volunteers so the community really came out to support it. It was a fundraiser for our YMCA which has been struggling so many of us who know how important the Y is in this community are very, very pleased with the turnout.

That's a hard race not to start too fast. And that hill at 8k was brutal after 4k of gravel. Congrats on race #3.
It was great to see you, David and the girls today. Chatting with you before the race helped to keep the nerves in check. Thanks!
Maybe I'll see you at the Valley in the fall?
