Size5 and the half iron

Postby Size5 » Sun Jul 05, 2009 8:34 pm

I had this race on my book for last year and it didn't happen for a variety of reasons. This year I rolled my entry over and decided to compete. Training was a bit of a grind between commuting a lot more and renovating a house but I got it done.

Swim:

2 loops - I tried desperately to pass the guy doing breast stroke next to me but couldn't  47:00 and change

Bike:

I owe my entire bike time to Colleen who if I didn't have her in my sights for 70+ km I would not have pedaled as hard..... I got a bit of GI distress at around 77km so I quit eating. The wind was harsh on the last 25km but I pulled off a 3:34(plus transition?) bike.

Run:

I felt slow - really slow.... I had a lot of company. A couple of maniacs traveled up north to watch the whole fiasco unfold  I was 2:20 on the run.

Total 6:41 and change. My A goal was 6:30 so I have nothing to complain about at all

I have to thank:

IronColl, Waynerdog, Rungirlrun, Farmgirl, and CinC for making this a super special day and the cheering (especially those who cheered while I was in the port-a-potty). The biggest thanks goes to Mr C-lab who walked the dog every freakin' morning for months on end so I could train early in the am. You are the best!

(Oh and I reserve the right to add other thanks as I'm exceptionally sleepy right now while writing this)

Completing a half iron is such an impressive feat. Great job almost hitting your A goal as well.

Nice work Krista! That sounds like a great time, especially for your first one. Wow! But... man oh man, that's a long time to be racing! You are inspiring!
