Lx2run Road-to-Hope

Postby Lx2run » Tue Nov 03, 2009 10:53 pm

So this was only my 3rd race of the year and the first marathon since Scotia Bank last year. After ATB I basically didn’t run all of April. Ran a mediocre ½ trail race in June and then July wasn’t that great either for running either but I had planned to run this race since last year so I took up the training in August.
As West Gray commented the weather was perfect for a run, overcast with a little breeze out of the west. I said hello to Alfie and happened to walk right into West Gray Runner at the start line.
I had a plan in mind and for the most part followed it. Keep the pace around 4:50, walk through the aid stations and try to gain some time on the down hill. At the half I was 45 seconds ahead of goal and at the 30K I was about 1:45 ahead of the pace. After that I gave it all back plus some. At the turn at 35K the pace slowed considerably. Finished up at 3:33:25 (chip) a 7 minute PB but about 13 min faster than Scotia Bank. Overall a good run and defiantly something to build on.

You rock Larry, that’s a great time. Congratulations on the PB. Will you be back in Hamilton next year?

Excellent! What do you think caused the bleeding of the banked time?

Way to go - a PB! That's a good time, especially since you hadn't run that much before August. Well done

Nice run Larry. Its all about the last 5-7 K when you're pushing the speed. The worst part is that PB leaves you 2 seconds short of mine! (reminder of Vulture Bait where you beat me by 6 seconds). Congrats.

A seven-minute PB means the training you took up in August absolutely worked. Well done!

Nicely done, Larry! Congrats on a huge PB and a solid race! Sounds like a great one. Here's to many more marathons like this.
