Montreal is kind to OrleansRunner

Postby orleansrunner1962 » Sun Apr 18, 2010 7:45 pm

The 1/2 marathon in Montreal today was to guage how my training was going, and what I was capable of at this stage, and what needed to be tweaked for Ottawa....

My PB for a 1/2 was 2:05:56, so I was hoping for 2:03, and was going to be ECSTATIC with 2:00....

My coach at Peak centre said go out for 5 km at 5:45, then 10 km at 5:40, then whatever you've got for the balance...

I headed out with my cousin (in the RAIN) right on target, did the first 5 km no issues, the next 10 km were mostly at 5:40  a couple were closer to 5:30, and I could see that the average pace was 5:40 (I needed 5:41) -- part of me was getting really excited "I am going to get this 2:00 thing", but another part of me was worried that we were maybe going to fast.... at 16 km, I told my cousin that we were now going to dial it in at 5:30 -- did that for 2 km, and then at 17 km my hamstrings were getting really tight, and I was thinking "oh-oh", and then my head started to want to give up....

Then a little switch went off, the competitive me  came out, and I just plowed thorugh 1 km at a time, and finished nice and strong at 1:59:39.5.... VERY happy with this... a new PB!!!!!

Congrats on your PB. I was pacing 2:00 and had almost identical numbers to yours. Too bad I didn't know who you were.

Well done! Sub 2:00 is awesome! That wind in the last few kilometers made it really tough.

Congratulations Sylvie! Good going crashing through that two hour barrier, especially without a full taper.

Congratulations, Sylvie, on a smokin' race and awesome PB ....

It's been great following your training this season, and am totally amazed with all your back-to-back long runs, and in particular, on your mid-week efforts ... :P

Thank you everyone -- I am really enjoying the new training plan -- seems to be working -- I think the refueling plan has really helped as well -- more gels during the runs, and the smoothie with protein after the run -- it all seems to be working -- legs feel strong - lots of energy -- weight is staying low and manageable.... ALL GOOD!!
