Hermes @ Scotiabank Half marathon

Postby Hermes » Mon Apr 19, 2010 4:56 pm

This was my fifth half marathon, and my second fastest! Kinda surprising.

In 2007, I ran a slightly different course Scotiabank half and had a time 5 minutes slower! That was my last half marathon. April 2007. And, that was the spring after my Boston qualifying 2006 Philly marathon, and I had been battling achilles issues, so explains the slow race.

Since 2008, the year of my second running injury, I've been taking it pretty easy, enjoying running, running some races, mostly 10Ks, and the odd 5K and the Hamilton 10 miler, and of course Cabot Trail Relay!

But this 21K race was my longest run since.... I don't know, a long time. Boston in 2008?????? I just checked my race states and it appears I have been a BIG slacker!

So, my time yesterday was 1:53 and change. My fastest half was in October 2006 at the beautiful Ottawa Fall Colours race, and that was about 6 weeks before I qualified for Beantown. I had a chip time of 1:48:10, and a podium finish.

That spring 2006, I ran the Fredericton Half in 1:54:41...

So, what this all means is that if I take this time as a promising sign, and get my butt in gear (run, run, run), I CAN run a speedy half in the fall and follow it with some marathon action.

All I have to do is WANT it! :P

Yes you can! Congrats on a good race... and I'm sure you'll have lots of great running to come this year.

Terrific job- what a great confidence booster going into the spring/summer season. It was really nice to see you yesterday! :)

Thanks for the history lesson. Hey I remember Ottawa Fall Colours 2006, I was there! Oh nice race yesterday too. You can be as fast as you want to be.
next up:

This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Nicely done Karen. Sorry I missed you and Jeffrey. Maybe will see you at St. Bruno. Registered but it all depends on what happens at NCM.
